    Borked files for Cape Terrigan

FFXI crashes on my PC everytime I enter Cape Teriggan. My laptop has no problem though. Does anyone know of a way to fix this without having to reinstall FFXI?

Try doing a file check of ffxi files from pol.

In POL Viewer, before you log in, choose "Check Files" and "Final Fantasy XI"

This may take you a while, since some people probably still downloading this last patch, but it should find and replace any corrupt files on your machine.

I've actually done that but it didn't help. Is there anyway to find out what files are for Cape Teriggan?

Could run a file check from POL on your PC. If you prefer not to do that then you could copy the dat files from your laptop to your PC but the hard part is finding out which ones you need to copy over to fix the corrupted ones. I think file check would be easiest option for you.

Edit: Seems you tried that already. Ok if you really didnt want to reinstall you could just copy the whole FFXI folder ontop of the one on your desktop (If you copy the user folder too it will overwrite your PC's macros/settings with your laptop's).

You can just copy the whole FF folder from your laptop, 20-30 mins and you're good

    i had this problem once

did you do the file trick update on PC?

what i did once, was rename tahrongi canyon, to do the file check update. but FFXI didnt repair the file. so after update Canyon was jamming.

So had to go rename it the right name and it fixed the problem

I'll try to copy the files over from the laptop. Hopefully there isn't some issue between Vista and XP (my PC is XP).

Edit: Just for reference, it was like this before the update yesterday and still that way last night.

If you just copy the FINAL FANTASY XI folder you'll have no issues (alternatively you could just copy the ROM2 folder which I believe it is the RotZ one), doing this will also copy your macro books over, so check them if you keep different sets, nothing worse needing a sleepga when you're on WAR macro set xD

I didn't realize there was different options for "Check Files". I must have done POL before. Ran it for FFXI and 4 files needed repairs. Haven't tested the zone yet.

I was trying to do a filecheck for early update.
Removed a .dat : no problems detected!
Inserted garbage in a .dat : no problems detected!
Removed an entire sub rom folder : no problems detected!

I now question the ability of file check. (xp)

The early update version check only checks files that'll be updated, I think. They're talking about something else.

Happened to me earlier, had no problems going into Sandy S before maint, after maint, I couldn't go there at all, it's weird, I did check files, repaired all files (Font + map pack) didn't work, I had to restart router before I could get back on in any zone.

more of a general caution, i don't know if it was the cause of your issue, but:

never do a version update in windower. it can screw the pooch on where files go, causing these kinds of errors.

After trying the file fix, Cape Teriggan is still messed up for me. I'll have to try the copy method tonight.

I had this problem a while back and reseting modem/router is what fixed it for me as well

I was having this problem with Tahrongi after update as well, I didn't know that if you use the file check method of updating that you have to move the ROM back afterwards (assumed file check would DL it on its own, silly me). Did you use the file check trick to DL update, and if so did you move the displaced ROM back to its folder after?

No, I didn't. I did save it, though. I would have thought it'd redownload it. . .seems rather useless if it doesn't. I'll try that, and re-run file check w/o windower and post the results~ Brb
