How about you guys stop crying and go do FOV for the nice items. Then you'll see the type of shit you're bitching against. It's like doing the ACP final mission only that not getting a good reward will cost you 2mil for that Hauby+1 you wasted, and potentially more in the future (If prices on these type of items spike).
I just had an idea... So Vbelt/Speed Belt have the [Rare] tag, which means you can't augment them.
However, if you synth a Sonic Belt, it loses [Rare] tag.
Anyone got enough balls to try it? :D
I enjoy the game where it is. When you can go solo Einherjar, PW, Dynamis, Salvage etc in 5 minutes, or if something like FoV renders all of this gear obsolete, this point will stand. As it is now, this isn't the case even though it seems some of the best gear options can & will come from FoV. Hence I've said this entire time, it is a shift in that direction in my opinion, not an instant game changer.
The point is that the 'work' put into obtaining salvage drops/relics/etc. vs FoV augments is still just time and luck. The idea that it's substantially less time or luck to obtain the FoV is a fantasy, and getting paranoid that it lessens the status of the 'old school' gear is hilarious.
So much of the status given to rare, high end gear is 100% accounted for by your luck, and to see such lucky folk whine about other folk who have yet to get lucky is quite the farce.
Quoting myself:
Honestly, unless SE announces they're going to make another true expansion rather than an addon or mini expansion, I consider FFXI dead.I'm kind of surprised everyone is complaining about this rather than complaining about how the addons are more-or-less of SE's way of indirectly selling good in game items for real life money.
Addons:
1. Little effort on SE's part(They throw in a few fetch quests, throw in two BCNMs, make a cutscene, and call it a day).
2. Give very good gear rewards for nearly half the jobs. MNK worked so hard for Enkidu's harness, getting points, getting pop items, zeni, etc. MNK finally got Enkidu's harness.
Next thing you know, SE releases ACP and allows you to augment a body gear that is even better than Enkidu's harness. (Mirke Wardecors has +5 DEX over Enkidu's Harness)
Also, ACP only takes a day or two to beat and most of the missions are ridiculously easy(except for the one very hard BCNM at the end).
The Mog addon and the next addon will repeat the same things.
So why are so many people complaining about this "now" when it has happened ever since ACP has been released?
SE is just going to milkthe players till everyone is fed up and quits(...then moves to FFXIV of course).
Who cares about auto-refresh? I have a black cloak/sorcerer's coat for that. Macros! Or are we nitpicking over a couple extra ticks during nukes? And of course there's the lolmnd but errant body has been better for ages.
Anyway, the whole "god I did years of salvage this guy got it in 5 mins" argument is dumb. People have gone 1/1 or 1/2 on salvage 35s before and there was no uproar. FFXI has been based primarily on luck (not skill lol, salvage isn't hard) since it came out. It's their trademark, and this fits the bill perfectly. Someone doing FoV "casually" (2 hours a day maybe?) will get 2 shots at a piece they want per day. They have to buy the piece, farm the tabs, kill the NM. Then they have to pray it:
a) rolls the stat they want
b) rolls a positive instead of negative
c) rolls a decent amount instead of just +1 or something
d) doesn't roll a negative stat that ruins one of the good stats on it (like -macc or something)
If any one of those 4 points goes wrong, they get to vendor their pile of shit for a loss.
I really don't see the problem with this. People will get lucky in any event, this is just another means to getting good gear that doesn't cockblock your assault tags. That guy who got +2 dex on his hagun or whatever will probably wish he didn't augment it if he ever gets around to upgrading amano (or just doesn't wanna play SAM anymore and can't sell it for 3mil to his preferred job). Haub with +1 resist bind = so long ~180k. etc. etc.
Most of it will be garbage, and the really good pieces will take a lot of money/time to get for most people, just like other endgame events. Bawww.
EDIT: that byrnie+1 is a great example of what I mean lol. A lot of you are underestimating the rarity of a useful stat, and the rarity of a useful amount of that stat on the augment.
I think people are laughing because the cause of all the bitching completely changed over a single augment. For almost a day now people have been complaining about how stupid the FoV augments are, and suddenly people are getting up in arms about how dangerously game breaking this shit has become.
That just supports the 'people will always bitch' rule. I think I'll trademark it and call it Seraph's Law.
No, we haven't started talking about game design. We are only talking why the person play games. Or rather why people work instead of play. Talking about it isn't pathetic, doing it is.
That isn't a game. That is watching a movie clip.Let's just turn on the game then and it shows the ending credits when you win.
You haven't even started talking about fun. When "work" is its own reward, then we are talking about playing. When someone plays a videogame and enjoying themselves they needn't a reminder like Xbox achievements or a Relic weapon.Because, what I was arguing is that the work/reward ratio is a critical aspect of why people enjoy this game and find it fun.
This is because you might not enjoy FFXI. The "stuff" you earn is just an aesthetic. What you want is the "earning," the verb. The fighting and the winning and the thinking and the challenge. If I wake tomorrow and find everything I ever wanted in my delivery box, a huge reason for playing is gone. I would prefer to earn it, I don't understand how that is pathetic.
EDIT: Seraph you didn't start that shit!
Drwaffles, this has nothing to do with people saying negative things about the game. It is what people are doing while saying so.
Why when one spam member/member of the isladar club shits up a thread do the rest of them have to come in and participate?
Anyways, I don't have a Morrigans robe yet on Uryuu because QQTH's never dorp, but I have to say this really is rather disappointing. Taking something and augmenting it that well... It's just a bit of a let down. I'm sure spending a lot of time in salvage isn't something some aspire/want to do, but for those of us who have spent countless hours in salvage trying to get specific pieces only to see them get almost matched by something like FOV... Orz.
Eh, I don't really mind if its common enough for one person to get the augment a week per server. Morrigan's is still better, even if not a huge margin, and in the end gear is gear.
If you play an FPS and the whole game you use a pistol and a machine gun, you don't bitch if you never get an upgrade ... you just have fun shooting shit til it gets boring. I've got people in my LS who aren't doing WoTG missions til they see if the final reward is good, which I see as an equivalent attitude as this Weskit thing. I like the cutscenes and story regardless, the final reward can be a hickory log for all I care. Good gear is just a bonus regardless of the difficulty involved. (Note: Mind you this is about good gear, even above average, ALL games must make tolerable, but "gimp" or just plain gear easy to get ... no one wants to literally be useless)
What bothers me more is when an MMO doesn't add new engaging content (WoTG is engaging, ACP was not). But I realize for some the addition of more powerful gear is more important. And for some that new gear MUST have a linear or exponential difficulty-to-power ratio. Eh, some people are different, no update will make everyone happy.
The way I see it, in 1492 Columbus sailed to America the hard way .... today I can hop on a plane and be in Spain in no time. Should this pattern happen in games the same way? I dunno, I doubt any one answer will satisfy everyone.
