I just got home from seeing it. I really enjoyed it a lot, and I spent a good portion of the movie grinning like a dork because of how cool some of the scenery was. I was recognizing all sorts of shit and just nerding out over it. I thought the story was pretty good and fairly faithful to what happened. It wasn't going to be exactly the same as the lore was and I knew that going in. My friend, who plays WoW but isn't as big a lore junkie as I am, really enjoyed it and said that he found it really easy to follow. For reference, he had no idea who Khadgar, Go'el, or Durotan were, and I spent half the ride home explaining who they all were.

All in all, I thought it was a cool movie and it did justice to the story. And Stormwind looked fucking amazing. Also, god do I love Karazhan. Solid, and I'd go see it again.

Media reporting it's "bombing" in domestic theaters, but I suspect to a degree that Blizzard wasn't ever really worried about profiting from the movie. They basically just made a multi-million dollar ad campaign. It'll still break even with overseas take.

It's already 100mil past it's budget on just overseas box office. Hard to say since advertising budget is generally mum but hiddenly tacked on to performance for "accounting reasons", but the movie is probably already in the black, or will be very soon.

And if word of mouth gets around that the critics aren't completely right, it should probably do okay in the end. Though, the next three weeks of new releases are a bit rough, mainly Independence Day in 2 weeks.

Seeing this Wednesday; hope I enjoy it. If this doing well leads to a good Arthas movie, then sign me up.

Our local imax only had like eight showings of it on Friday. We went to another theatre that had better times but still wasn't that filled

Blizzard will be happy if WC makes 65-75M domestic.

I'll second this, when I left the theater after watching PoP, it was probably the best video game inspired movie to date back then. It was really well done for what it was based on.

I want to believe that Video Game inspired movies are going to prosper just as comic book movies have done so. They start young, gangly, and stand pretty awkardly. After some time and experience they blossom into multi-hit franchises. These movies didn't really start in earnest until the turn of the Millenium just behind some of the iconic comic films (Batman et. al and a plethora of others in previous decades).

Since I was bored I wanted to check them out, the only movies to score above a 50% on Metacritic were Mortal Kombat and Prince of Persia. I have no idea if that's an accurate list, but I was hoping Warcraft would be the Ironman to video game movies - perhaps FassCreed could be the promised game-movie we deserve.

I wanted to see Warcraft but I don't know the lore, and it seems I wouldn't really enjoy it after reading this thread. I'll probably matinee it instead.

Fasscreed easily has the most talent attached to it of any videogame adaptation ever. if it can't do it-

Saw this movie yesterday. As someone who's played Warcraft RTS, and continued to follow the story-line afterwards, I thought the movie was overall good. Although I get the feeling that anyone who is not familiar with Warcraft lore will find the movie boring and/or uninteresting.

    What I did not like, as someone mentioned before, was some over-CGI;
    Spoiler: show
    Medivh turning into a demon...
, also some characters could have possibly benefited from an actor recast.

Got dragged into it last night, thank goodness I drank first. Fell asleep during the movie, it was awful, easily the worst movie I've paid for in a very long time. Would have walked out if my fiancee wasn't already sleeping on me in the theater after about an hour in.

Seemed very rushed and all over the place, random at times, and like everyone on earth has said already... Garona was so, so bad.

I still don't understand why she was cast and written like that. It was so cringe-worthy

In hindsight the movie was exactly what I predicted and expected it would be and possibly even worse than I could have even dreamed of it being. In the end I got what I wanted, with the exception of actually having to see it.

I thought it was pretty good. I mean, it's not amazing or anything, but it was a decent, comprehensive summary of the Warcraft I lore. Looking forward to II and, more importantly, III and Frozen Throne. Because it seemed to me that that's what they were building up to.

My GF thought it was decent, too, and she's never played the games.

I agree that some of the acting was a bit... off... but for a first outing, it wasn't bad. I didn't mind the demon thing, it just provided a visual cue for the actual events. The books had him being possessed by a demon, iirc. Though, Dalaran is definitely NOT airborne at this point, but given the visuals it let them throw in, I can forgive it. Will just make all future scenes with Dalaran that much more spectacular.
