How do I shot PLD? (Newly 70 PLD seeks learning.)

I just made level 70 PLD. This is my highest level job and will be my first 75. Up til now I've been fairly confident in my ability, but that has just been in XP parties and with endgame coming up and a change of gameplay focus I am a bit nervous. Before I get started I will go ahead and post my current XP gear.

Also have Herc ring, AF, shield torque, buckler & hospitaler ear for swaps and whatnot.

I've been following this guide Allakhazam.com: Final Fantasy XI as I've been doing DD PLD while also keeping an eye on the gear guides on ffxiclopedia. Problems are that the DD PLD guide seems to become very sparse at this level and up (not that it was overly detailed before) and the guides on ffxiclopedia are focused on turtle style. These issues combined with a lot of gear being ra/ex from here on has left me a bit nervous moving forward as I like to have concrete plans on what to look forward to.

Also I've been having a hell of a time keeping hate now that parties have moved into imps. I can keep it somewhat, but usually lose it as soon as the DD's start busting out weapon skills. I've been wondering if it's something I'm doing wrong or if it is just the general limitations PLD faces vs big DD's against these mobs at this level.

To sum things up I am asking for advice/direction in this later stage of PLD into endgame. Gear suggestions, what to look in to, any knowledge I could use I'd much appreciate.

Also as an aside, I always hear (and know to be true) that stacking def/VIT is pretty pointless due to diminishing returns and a low capping point. I don't know the specifics of this though and what information I could find I didn't really understand (bad at math). If anyone would like to explain it to me in layman's terms that would be great.

Get a Company Sword and a Joyeuse, sub NIN, wear the best DD gear you can find/afford, don't worry about pretending to be a tank. Cast Flash on pull and just be a DD from that point onwards, Vorpal Blade is pretty strong.

And get used to building your own parties, nobody is going to invite a PLD as a DD, even though I outdamaged almost every DD I partied with from 70-75. You're just not even on their radar as a job to look for when they see what's seeking.

From my experience anytime your trying to hold hate off a DD that has a piercing advantage on a mob, ie a DRG or a RNG or pole SAM, on a bird/imp, its a crapshoot. At that point all you can do is throw Flash and DD the best you can to help your parties exp/hr go up.

If you haven't already obtained Sea access, do so. Limbus will become your friend for a ridiculous number of armor pieces and accessories. Homam Hands/Legs/Feet and sometimes Body, Boxers Mantle, Loq Earring, Brutal Earring, AF+1 Feet, Etc. An additional side effect is access to Swift Belt as well.

Make sure you get a W. Turban. The moderately new Iron Ram pieces can also be very nice for a MDT- set, and for JA Enmity.

If you finish ACP, and choose Nuevo Coselete, for the love of god pick Fast Cast +5 and Enmity +5 and use it as your casting piece. Nuevo Haub PLDs make me so sad.

Getting a Sattva ring is very nice, but it won't make or break you. Assuming you get the chance, an Ethereal Earring is also a very nice piece.

Finally, as much as it sucks, and it will suck, get to Nyzul Isle floor 100, get a Brave Blade, unlock Atonement, and camp to get a Joyeuse. It seriously changes how you get to play the job.

well actually for me, i PT as PLD/WAR all the time, unles LS merit PTs i DD it up as best as i can with justice/joy.

as for 70+ PTs i just stick with Enmity > DEF/VIT > whatever else.

Imp camps can get a bit messy for PLD with amnesia and silence can be bothersom too. since all hate produced is from like spells and JA's, the way i jeld hate was timing JA's well, cure yourself and PT lots, also make sure you have RDM and or brd for those refreshes.

if you can get Iron Ram stuff from Sandy[S] that helps with ele resists in imp camp. after lvl72 i actually really campaigned to 75 and capped exp with 2 merits in 2 days, ranging from 2-5.6k exp a tag as PLD/RDM.

i looked at your gear. if thats all you got then, just a little advice, for end game, get some enmity gear and haste gear Vit gear too for your rampart, dyna you'll be /war all the time, Adaman gear is actually not to bad till you get like relics etc. always wear Gallant Leggings, i have seen people ignore shiled skill for enmity for exp PT's, the shield is your best friend, for blocking to stop interuptions on spell casting.

if your going endgame like HNM ZMN SCNM KS99 Sea and sky type ls things then make sure you got nin37 and rdm37 too most likely be /nin to most things slike jalor's in sea (/rdm for JoL) i know from doing events with the HNMLS i am in i am PLD/NIN to all HNM ZNM KS99 Sea and most Sky stuff.

For /NIN end game haste is important for brining your recasts down, so haste > Enmity. when /war stack Enmity DEF/VIT.

types of food that help, i use Dorado Sushi (for the ACC and Enmity) for /nin and Tav Taco (for DEF Boost can get you up to about 710 def with AH gear) for /war. they are around 20-25k on seraph but they help alot.

As for guides i used "Paladin Equipment Guide Chart format" on ffxiclopedia PLD page at the bottom. to be honest, i never set up for DD in endgame, only to merit with LS.

On Odin it is, but many of the times it's people trying to merc camp it for profit, instead of people who actually need it. Camping against them enough made the profit margin not worth it, so they eventually give up and move on to greener pastures. We had several different groups that refused to buy though, so that helped considerably to remove the 'constant campers'.

A friend who recently camped it for about two weeks on and off was rewarded with the sword last week. Honestly, the hardest part is getting a solid kill crew to just sit down there for the popping, as opposed to trying to scramble once Charby actually pops. You wil usually be outclaimed at that point. 1% steals are rare, and will often grant you an asshole label.

There is also 47 threads a day on Zham on "how do I pld/nin from 70+ DD". Really, if you want 40 replies on gear available and method for partying/tanking on pld 70+, then go read up on the COUNTLESS threads already on this topic on that website.

If you dont know what gear is available, then check wiki or ffxiah.

If you dont know job mechanics, then check a beginners forum like Zham where the SAME question you just asked is posted 4 times a day (and answered).

If you have tested multiple pieces and want to know which is technically better for your specific situation: Then come to BG.

It doesnt matter if he wants opinions from people more vetted on the subject. The questions he asked have been answered in ARDUOUS detail in many places and can be found with MINIMAL searching. These kinds of posts are a waste of space and time and should be directed to the places that are designed to house them. It is rediculous to have to deal with so much white noise to get to anything useful on this forum.

Even alla knows by now that pld's should be DDing in exp party, and /nin DDing post 70.

As for gear sets, there are no less than 5 pld DD gear set threads on the job forums on alla/pld forums (on the first page even) and I found no less than 7 links to relevant threads on a 2 second search of Google.

The guy just wants confirmation that the general cookie cutter DD PLD guides are the way to go. If he asks it here, people will generally go out of the way to give him that, and more in the way of information. Heaven forbid we make some better players. Then we might have less to bitch about.

How much do people charge? Millions I'm guessing. Getting people together would be a problem for me right now as well, several people in the LS I am in have disappeared.
