And who would have guessed that was the 3rd link on my list of google searches..
So hard.
And who would have guessed that was the 3rd link on my list of google searches..
So hard.
Edit: Double post.
Guess I have to spell it out for you, figures.
In his first post he said he's been following a guide here from alla.
In your "useful" post, you gave him a link to alla, a place he's already been and has been following.
OP : "I need a pair of socks, couldn't find exactly what I was looking for at Target, anyone know of a place?"
Neosutra : "Go to target, you fucking moron. Stop posting this shit on MY forums that I have to read."
Guess I'll spell it out for you:
Check out Alla's pld forum. On the first page is no less than 5 DD pld and pld/nin guide/questions that answer the SPECIFIC question the OP asked.
Just because someone says "i tried using search function" or "I already checked here" doesnt mean they actually did or spent more than 10 seconds there. Hell, the google search I stated showed the top 10 guides (one linked right above us) in 3 seconds.
Please fail more.
And it goes both way's Correction.
Sticky threads are always a good basis for people doing research, they can use them and learn quite a bit. I think the reason you're always going to see threads asking for advise is there's more open-forum debate to clear up any misinterpretations of what they already know.
People don't have to ask for their ass to be wiped, and hand to be held, they should probably cite what they've researched so far on a web to web basis or post their gear. The OP did both of those, and asked for further elaboration. It's a more valid thread because of that.
Anyways, the thread is too far gone because of Neo getting his panties in a knot, better to just click through isladar's two stickies for questions then dealing with the lording of people stuck on a high horse. Narrow down the question so it fits those threads though perhaps if you go that route.
Just wanted to say thanks SaviorSelf for the useful PM. Lot of helpful stuff.
What, no thanx to me TheQ?
lol.
Thanks for shitting up the thread and making sure you got the last word/post.
Anytime.
Now use the fucking search function and actually look for answers yourself instead of asking for others to do it for you.
And in the future, I hope you will use the links, search engines, and threads I referenced for your relevant questions.
Have a nice day.
As someone that used to post Standard an awful lot, I can tell you some of the best information came out of threads with originally extremely simple questions.
Oftentimes, the OP asks a very basic question, which begins debate. Eventually the focus of the thread progresses to the point where you go into greater detail and new, unique information arises. Think of the OP's question as a spark for debate. I'm not saying every basic question thread ends up with something new and amazing, but some of them do. To stifle every basic question thread with immediate derail (e.g. "this is not advanced") kills potentially good debates.
EDIT: To actually give some relevant information to the thread, the person who mentioned Sea access is spot on. Homam gear in particular is quite a boost from the next best thing.
lol
Fair enough Kaeko.
I guess that is why I liked the 2 different forums so much. There was a place where I could go to see relevant updates on new JA testing, event results, and discussions on relevant end-game topics, as well as a seperate forum for those that wanted/needed more baseline answers.
With just one forum, it goes back to having to continually ask players to use the "whats better" thread, or proper search functions, before posting their questions.
I personally enjoyed separate forums as well but it's a Mod decision and I suppose there are positives and negatives to both systems.
Though, the occasional "newbie" topic doesn't really taint the new Advanced in my opinion. It is most clear the few weeks after patch day that BG still collectively produces the most new data and information when there is new information to be had (like right now). But we all know there are only 3 patches a year and there's really not much 'new' out there otherwise, so if it weren't for topics such as this one, Advanced would die out (which is the main reason I suspect the change was made).
It just takes adjustment from the more veteran posters. What the OP did is what the Mods want. This particular thread may not end up very interesting (or it may, never know), but it doesn't mean every one ends this way.
Let me make a few things clear, and clarify a few misconceptions. Both parties are right and both are wrong. The OP, while asking a question and looking for advice, should have used the search function, he should have done research and pointed out specific threads. We are here to help him get better, not teach him how2pld, weve already done that. His question was good, but should have been better.
Neo is angry, Neo is wrong, Neo is also right. The OP didnt do a lot of research he should have done, however he did come to us for questions and clarification. I understand you found your 7 topics and whatever amount of threads, if you posted them you really could have shown him that he needed to work harder and thus extended the conversation to getting back to actual PLD discussion instead of this brash penis waving.
So, in review, OP had a good question but needed to search some more. Neo was right about him needing to do more searching but really came off like an elitist dick doing it.
We are all on the same side of a very tedious to play game, people come to BG because its not alla or otherwiki, and a great deal of the proper information came from us in the first place. I cant tell you how many times Ive seen stacks of information almost word for word copy pastaed. So, lets keep it civil and learn to search.
There will be no infractions handed out for this thread up to this post, just a kind reminder that Im here and I am watching.
I empathize with the OP.
He had read guides and followed a lot of them, but he was struggling to find good info on the gap when no one wants PLDs for exp (68-75).
Sure this forum contains some useful info, but I his defence the vbb search function combined with odd threat titles and run away threads (kaeko mentioned good info often come out when the threat evolves away from the OP) makes it very hard to find the right info. I struggle to find topics I posted in at times.
There are wiki/alla/KI guides out there that soooo out that they don't include ToAU areas or gear. Or still follow the 'PLD must stack VIT' 'Koenig gear is king for PLD' 'Defender full time ftw' etc.
He came here just to check that he was wearing the right stuff, doing the right things and that to improve himself beyond the limitations of the existing stickies so he has proved himself to 'above' most of the sheep on alla and wiki.
The simple answer to the OP was "You look like you are doing ok, don't expect fast invites at 70+. Campaign is a good way to exp and get your Iron Ram gear. Get sea access asap, and start work on homam, AF+1 and accessories. And possibly look for a dynamis shell (although valor has been mainly superseded now)"
Neo sounds annoyed still about the Advanced and Standard merger and seems to have taken it out on the OP for asking such a 'basic' question. My advice to him (although I know he doesn't want it) is to not click on the topics you don't like the look of. Even before the merge Standard contained these type of threads and they will continue long after the merger; unless some one make Neo a mod and he will nuke any ones account with less than 2k posts.
once xp parties become TP burn there's really not much you can do to tank mobs. you can hold it at the start till someone gets off a ws. but thats just xp parties, endgame is actuallying tanking
I dont have a problem with lower accounts lol. I would just reinstitute standard section Q.Q.
However, I would disagree that the guides I linked didnt answer the questions.
As for the OP:
Everyone said it, but just gear up DD the best of your ability and dont worry about "keeping hate" in an exp party 70+. Flash at start, use JAs to help spike hate and save your friends, and help the rdm or whm keep your buddies alive all while DDing your heart out.
Priorities for you should be:
1. Getting joytoy.
2. Getting sea. (You can low man limbus and get your homam pieces pretty fast, as well as brutal/boxers/etc).
Once at 75 you can do your merits (shield skill, sword skill, pld specific merits, etc). I was DD pld for merits when I first leveled it because I didnt have another meripo job and a well geared DD pld can outdo an ah shit DD anyday of the week (but you will fall behind good DDs no matter what due to lack of attack and DD JAs).
As for gear in the mean time:
Optical hat -> Turban
Hauby(+1)
Dusk gloves/feet
Amemit/Foragers -> Culc/Augmented 6 acc mantle
PCC/Chiv chain/spectacles
Suppa/Brutal (Work on getting ethereal once you have sea done)
Acc rings
Goblin Grenade
Few leg options, but acc is generally best here.
Once you get 75 and start getting more options you can upgrade to the endgame equivalents for those slots, which Im sure you know.
