    P90X

Been thinking about trying this "much-talked about" exercise program. I've had a gym membership since christmas (gift from the parents) but never used it because I've never set foot in a gym, and have no clue how to work out. But I guess this is all at home, 1 hour a day workout planned for you.

Any experience with any of it?

Fuck plyometrics. I do the full thing once weekly, and it's fucking retarded. Squat/reach/jump/tuck kills me.

its definitely worth the download, and you dont need a whole lot of stuff to get it done. the diet is impossible to stick to, for me at least. a bonus though is you become used to the workouts so you can mute him and play music instead of listening to his annoying ass shtick.

My dad bought the P90X DVDs. I did it for about four weeks but then I stoped. I didn't stop because it was too hard (Sore like a bitch though,) I stopped because I got discouraged too easily. I just run around my neighborhood everyday as my daily exercise and once in a while do the Cardio DVD. I agree with tyven though; I could never complete Yoga. Fucking bitch of an exercise. The Abs exercise is very good though. Only 16 minutes.

I wish he said BAM but when he says Blam I always think it's a play on words for Black and Bam, which just makes me think he's being racist lol.

I am at the end of phase 3, Day 66, and I notice the changes big time. Near the end of phase 2 I was able to get through Plyo with only extending the breaks by 30 seconds each time, but I still struggle with Fifer Scissors in Ab Ripper X (can't get my legs straight). Yoga is too fucking long honestly, I can get through it but I hate the first 40 or so minutes, when you get past the Sun Salutation bullshit it's way more relaxing, I look forward to that Tree.

My friend David is doing it with me and I got my friend Kraig started on it about a week ago. It definitely works and it's not too bad honestly if you follow the diet and drink a recovery drink everyday. What do you guys use? I just use Chocolate Milk + Scoop of Gold Standard Whey Protein (double chocolate flavor).

    edit @ OP:
I hadn't ever worked out in my life really besides crunches/bicycles before going to bed daily and I am doing P90X fine. If you're overweight it isn't for you though, I can imagine this being hell in a basket for someone who is even slightly overweight.

Download it and get a pull-up bar (Iron Gym works fine), a few dumbells.. maybe 5, 10, 15 and 20 to start since it sounds like you've never worked out before so you're going to want to focus on form, and a yoga mat. Clear out your kitchen and shop weekly for the diet provided with the P90X program, you won't get the benefits of the workout without following some sort of healthy diet and the P90X nutrition plan goes with the program well, I was sore only a few days (maybe 5?) and afterwards I haven't been really sore since, only occasionally after I push myself really hard, but it's the good kind because you know you pushed yourself way farther than you used to be able to. It usually happens after the recovery weeks. Uhm, but yeah, spend about a week or two preparing, maybe getting used to eating smaller meals during the day and clearing out the junk from your house, gathering your materials.

Guy is annoying as hell, shit is intense though. Also Free=Good I downloaded the 4gig MPEG4 format torrent meant to be used on portable devices, through it on a cheap flash drive and just go from there. torrent includes all documents and everything too.

I don't do the whole p90x routine, so I don't go through their whole diet and stuff, but as far as diet/drinks, I eat very healthy, but I'm not obsessive about tracking percentages and intake. No fried foods, no carbonated drinks or soda. I drink the hell out of Vitamin Water XXX (antioxidant formula). I use that as my recovery drink. I'll also drink pomegranate juice after workouts sometimes as well.

I was under the impression that if you're looking to bulk up you'd want to do a different workout than p90x, which is more of a cutting routing for people aiming to mostly gain definition/burn fat.

And aren't recovery drinks supposed to be protein and not just antioxidants?

Actually you need 3 things really. Antioxidants, protein, and carbohydrates. I eat dinner (or breakfast if I go out early) within 45 minutes of finishing a workout.

Bulking up is different than p90x which is a fat burning/cutting workout. Bulking will require eating lots more calories and lots of proteins while lifting heavy weight, not just your fatass off the floor doing push ups like in p90x.

    ^ very simplified

I don't look to cut, I am more into bulking and staying strong while flexible. Going into police work I don't really want to be tossed around by some random guy.

    No and no.

P90X is definitely a good program for building muscle, it's not a good program for losing weight.

Recovery drinks, at least what I refer to as a recovery drink, consists of a 4:1 carb-protein ratio. If you just load up on protein but starve your muscles of the energy they're are being pushed to use, you're just going to be fucking sore as hell no matter how much protein you intake. That's why it's called a recovery drink, because it gives your muscles what they need after a workout.

Building muscle and bulking aren't the same thing to me. Building muscle is going to happen definitely while using the program, but you're not going to gain large amounts of mass from doing it like you would a different program. Will you be stronger? Absolutely. Will you be bigger? Most likely not because the majority of the people doing the program and looking to lose size not gain and that's what it is aimed towards, being fit and toned with less body fat.

Also for bulking there are tons of other supplements that will greatly benefit you used along with recovery drinks.

Well I'm SoL then. I'm looking to put a little muscle in my chest and arms, but want to avoid looking like an ass at a gym.

And I would NEVER follow the diet. I have a hypo active thyroid, so I can live off twinkies, chocolate milk and crisco and never gain a pound. (Its a blessing and a curse, trust me)

To be honest, the only reason I looked into this is because I'm pigeon chested, which means my sternum pokes out a bit between my pectoral muscles. Not a lot, and I'm not that self conscious about it, but I'd like for it to be a bit less noticeable.

I definatley don't want to LOSE weight, but I don't want to be a body builder either. Will it help to put on *lean* muscle, or is it stictly a lose weight, slim down routine?

From the looks of the "testimonials" online and from what I looked up, people seem to have gotten quit big off of all this. I dunno
