    Darkfall Online, anyone played this?

Alrighty about a year ago I heard about this game where it was coming out around warhammers release but I guess got pushed back to first quarter of 2009, anyways the game boasted its a MMO unlike any other, there is no level system, there are no classes and you can do whatever you want however you want and basically its whatever you make of it unlike other games where you have to sit there and level before you can raid ect..

Now I have played warhammer and I don't feel like going through a wow clone thats rough around the edges and still has some bugs and the world in WAR is quite small so I was hoping to find another MMO to play.

I wanted to know if anyone has tried it and maybe can tell me what its like before I jump into it because I have yet to hear much, if anything about it and if its a great game I would have heard something to say the least.

    Here is the website Darkfall

It seems promising with a job system like FFXI where 1 character plays all jobs then again there are no 'jobs' or whatnot so it seems like it might be like a diablo type game where you could get all spells but what you wore and did affected how you played ect.

Would be interesting to make a RDM type class and kill people with it.

EDIT: Oh yea the one big thing that drew me to it was there is world PvP everywhere and no names above peoples heads so stealth is an issue and ever since Blizzard killed off world PvP in WoW I have been looking for a game that offers that(warhammer is lackluster IMO for world PvP) and this might be it so I have my fingers crossed...

My friend played the game and said how you were always open to pvp kills regardless of level... that kind of sucks. It played like Oblivion (which I didn't mind.. just putting that out there), and also when you were killed in pvp you dropped all your items including quest items, so people would just kill you and take your quest items or something along those lines? Not too keen on that part, sort of forgot. If you can put up with stuff like that, more power to you, but personally the way he described it turned me off to playing it.

It has real promise, but from what my friends tell me is that it was basically 2 Greek guys who developed it over like 10 years, and as soon as it released they got way more money than they knew what to do with and the servers kinda sucked dick and everything looked kinda shitty, but that they were going to do some major overhauls with the huge influx of cash they were getting for the game.

I plan to play eventually, if they can manage to sort out a few odds and ends

    Interesting,...

I know that getting you shit taken is a bitch which reminds me of a similar system of hardcore of Diablo II but it makes you think on your toes that if you die there IS consequences and since it doesn't take ages to level(hence no level system) it wouldn't be too bad to get it back much like it was in diablo II because hardcore only worked because it was quick to level when you got the tricks down.

I am more interested in the PvP aspect, I play wow now and world PvP is dead because everyone and their 5 alts has a flying mount, hence people fly everywhere = no world PvP and its annoying the hell out of me as that was WAAAAAAAAAAAAY more fun then BG's and arena...

Hopfully someone out there who has played it can offer their 2 cents on the matter or if someone knows a game with some good world PvP thats a MMO let me know I need something to do wow is boring >.>

BGs and Arena, I thought, were a lot more fun, just because everyone had a clue and it wasn't like punching babies with AIDS

World PvP is good as long as everyone is aware of it constantly and doesn't mind fighting; or better yet, likes it. I would love to see an implemented world PvP system where there were decent enough rewards that the pansies wouldn't mind doing it, but also enough people in areas to actually have it exist.

The actual PvP and PvE in that game (from the few hours I dicked around on a friends computer) were pretty ok, nothing particularly special. The only awesome thing was seeing about 15 dorfs run at a town of Furries and steal all their mounts and shit.

    ROFL...

Anyways wow killed world PvP with WotLK, reason is at 60 a lot of people didn't have their epic mount and quests were not giving a lot of gold so it was something they had to work for and world PvP was everywhere people tried to farm for money, hence every zone above 45.

BC rolls around and people get a lot more money but having just a flying mount but no epic mount people still rode on their epic land mount because it was faster, that and the sunwell isle was the best world PvP I have ever seen in the game where you would have 20+ person raids going at each other over the fucking khorium vein it was great.

Now with 2-3k gold just from grinding 70-80 and people able to make a lotta money everywhere now everyone has a flying mount, the argent quests are a joke because any world PvP that can happen only happens at the TFA quest in icecrown and everywhere else people are protected in some way that you can't world PvP anymore unless your ganking alts it sucks...

Arena and BG's are fun but I really like spontanious combat in random places its just more entertaining when you pick on someone 3 levels higher then you and win or when you try to gank 2 people and your racing the clock to kill the other before his friend rezzes ect.

I been trying to find a game that has some good world PvP but not sure where to look :/

World PvP will be almost impossible to find as a lot of people don't like PvP, especially if they're trying to grind/farm etc...

GW has some really legit PvP though, i really enjoy it anyway.

My mmo clan flowers of happiness recently tried this game out and they basically discovered that if you are going to play you gotta join up with a big guild or u done nigga. Just walkin around is gonna get you raped son, so treat it like prison. On the first day kick someones ass and then join up with the biggest gang there.

I had 2 friends play through the Beta for a few months and I kept close communication about the game. This is what they've told me.

1.) Past a certain point (see, very early in the game) you are pigeon holed into being a group for anything and everything you want to do. You can't go exploring or farming by yourself, because there's always a group of 3+ people wandering around that will kill you and steal your shit. (Having some douchebags steal all the ore you just spent 1-2 hours mining is not fun.)

2.) You can't PvE alone because after a few levels (or skills) the monsters jump to a ridiculously high level and come in packs; and when low on HP will run back to several camps and aggro another 3+ Horde. So you will always need to be in a group for anything PvE or PvP or you will die and lose everything.

3.) Complete Player run community makes it so the amount of backstabbing is astronomical. You can forge alliances and take over a city with a guild, then that guild can break your alliance, team with another, sack your city, and steal all your shit just because one of your members made a retard joke a leader couldn't handle. It's all internet politics and you know how that turns out..

It's not all bad though, crafting actually makes money because people will lose all their crap and be forced to buy it again, making the ability to make armor a great one. They told me this game can either be really fun, or the most frustrating experience ever. Because you have good days (you kill people, get their shit, all fun) and REALLY bad days (You lose ALL your gear, money, mounts and are left with nothing.) which just makes you want to quit and break your computer.

Just looking at the Youtube online footage of this made a weird impression on me. It kinda felt like I was looking more at an MMOFPS type game instead of an MMORPG. I don't know if you've ever played something like Planetside, but this seems to be the image that stays in my head constantly when I watch the footage. I'm really close to saying it looks as if I'm playing a Quake type game without guns with a slight RPG twist in that you can choose how you want to specialize.

I do love PvP; I love it when I can engage another player (instead of a PvE encounter) in a test of skill, but I want something that feels a little deeper than that. Why do I want to kill the others so badly, what is my reasoning behind it in this game?

In an FPS you're normally playing quick games of skill, but if this is an MMO I'd want to see a change on a player developed "political map" showing areas that are owned and I'd want a reson to own them other than just having it. Do I control an area critical to storyline or quest advancement in this game? Is there a storyline to speak of in the first place?

I really like character development and like to see returns on the amount of time I'd invest in my character. I don't care that I could be reverted to a zero state in terms of armor or weaponry, they're usually all material items that can be replaced in time. I'd like to think that the basic skill level my character has attained while playing would make it easy to recover or give me an advantage over a newcomer even if we both were without equipment. I'd hate to think that a group of "nakeds" could come into any area as newcomers and pose a major threat to someone at no risk of losing anything important on their end (they're fucking naked already, what do they have to lose?).

Despite it being semi odd, I used to like the Asheron's Call style PvP where you didn't ever really know someone's template or skill specializations unless they showed you directly or posted it on a site. You'd honestly make assumptions based on how they were fighting you or what they were wearing and it always came as a shock when the character you were fighting (that you thought was a pure WAR mage) would weaken you to physical and acid damage and rip out an acid dagger and 300+ Skill as he triple stabs you to death.

I love to see unique builds, weird character templates, different player combat styles, and special min/max extremes people torture themselves with to push through the early levels to see a high level result. I'm not sure this game has the depth I'm looking for to be honest. I've been looking at this one since Sep-Aug 2003, it was the game I was going to go to instead of FFXI but it didn't come out in time.

Just from glancing at this thread, it looks like Mortal Online might resemble Darkfall a bit
