    Cannot install nVidia drivers?

I have a sony laptop with a nVidia GeForce 7400 Go.

The laptop recently went to sony for service, and before I shipped it off I wiped the hard drive after backing everything up. When I recieved it back, I reinstalled windows 7 and went on the nVidia site and downloaded the drivers for the video card stated above, only to have a error pop up during installation saying "The installer could not find drivers that support this device".

So I went on the sony site installed drivers they had for my model of laptop, which the drivers are 18 months old and then tried to reinstall updated drivers with the same result.

Anyone ever have this kind of issue, or have any advice on what to try next? Thanks

The problem is that its a laptop. From what i've seen it seems like the manufacturers of the laptop are trying to make you get their drivers from them, not the card makers.

You wanna check out a site like NVIDIA & Laptop News | Latest NVIDIA drivers and related news | laptopvideo2go.com

This site provides drivers for laptops, and the modded INF (which allows you to install the driver on your laptop)

Anyway, it seems like 190.15 is the latest release thats functioning (out of the box) on windows 7.

    v190.15 Vista/7 32bit | NVIDIA - NVISION

There is a post about 190.38, but it requires some manual tweaks posted in the thread (if you are tech saavy i'd give this a shot)

    http://forums.laptopvideo2go.com/top...-32bit-nvidia/

Keep in mind these are all 32 bit driver links, but the site also carries the 64 bit drivers.

What I'm willing to bet is the new versions of the drivers just don't include your 7400 Go in the .inf, so that's why it "doesn't support the device". All it should take is some modification of the inf, which assuming you don't want to do it yourself I found a site that supposedly does that. I don't have a laptop to test it on but you can try the ones on Download NVIDIA drivers | drivers for mobile cards and laptops | laptopvideo2go.com. There's Windows 7 32/64 bit drivers right at the top.

Edit: beat while typing and "working"
