Using the Race and Rape Card

Why does it seem like people have been pulling the Race and Rape cards out lately? Professor Gates, Sotomayor, Big Ben, etc...

Isnt playing the card too often, like crying wolf? Doesnt it take away from the real Rape and Racism cases?

Professor gates = Asshole cop ? or real racism?

Sotomayor = Reverse racism? (is that even possible?) or Politicians searching for a reason?

Big ben = Rapist, or is she a crazy gold digger?

I think I'm slowly becoming desensitized to to all of this bullshit.

The Gates thing is a huge fucking mess that could have been avoided. I believe the cop went by the book - he gets a call about a burglary in progress and has to check it out. However once he verified that Gates was the owner of the house that should've been it. What got Gates arrested was that he let himself get out of control, and then took a shouting match out into the street. In his home, fine whatever, but out in public is disorderly conduct.

Gates had every right to be pissed. I would have too. I wasnt there, so I dont know how it went down, but it seems the Cop was being a dick. There is an already sensitive relationship between the Po'lease, and minorities. So when shit like this happends, its easy for some to automatically think its Racism.

What's confusing me is that your opening post doesn't shift the blame to those responsible for propagating these issues, at least not in the proper critical observation.

i didnt think it was race related so much as it was the NFL's current golden boy and golden team related. i would imagine the NFL has a lot of sway over espn and said something like 'dont tarnish our motherfucking superbowl champions you kike faggots' and so espn said 'no prob' but then the rest of the media shit all over espn so they finally had to sack up.

The reason I posted was because I had this discussion with a black friend that thinks the Obama birth certificate issue has nothing to do with the legitimacy of his presidency, its more about reminding black people that they arent real Americans, and that they are African- Americans.

I feel like one of the few people around who doesn't think the cops were racist bastards who arrested Gates because he was a dirty n****r who was messing up their nice clean white neighborhood. Did the cops act out of line? Sure. But what seems to be getting completely whitewashed (no pun intended) in the media coverage of this event is Gates's behaviour.

Look, I hate cops. Cops are pigs 90% of the time. A lot of them are just assholes on a power trip. Even when they're legit, they tend to act arrogantly and treat people like they're guilty until proven innocent. But it is what it is, and when a cop asks you for your ID, you do not fucking say "no, u first!" Which, from both the cops' and Gates's own accounts of the affair, is what happened. No, instead he starts accusing them of racism right off the bat and refuses to identify himself until they basically force him to do so. That's fucking stupid.

My point is, you do what a cop asks you to do unless it's so far out of line that you fear for your personal safety. You can be offended all you like, but if you're breaking into your own home and a cop asks you to prove who you are, just give him your goddamn ID without any lip. After you peacefully resolve the situation, then you bring your accusations to the media. It makes you look good and him look bad. But that's not what Gates did.

Like I said... it's not like the cops weren't complicit in this whole deal. But it could have been just the cops acting like assholes; instead, Gates decided to be an arrogant little bitch himself, and that's where he fucked up.
