Gates had every right to be pissed. I would have too. I wasnt there, so I dont know how it went down, but it seems the Cop was being a dick. There is an already sensitive relationship between the Po'lease, and minorities. So when shit like this happends, its easy for some to automatically think its Racism.

And Gates blogging that it was racial profiling when it plainly wasn't doesn't help either. It also doesn't help when the President cluelessly pushes the idea either, just because he knows the guy and wants to defend him. (that's right.. I said it Obama fucked up.)

After listening to an interview the cop had on local radio I actually thought he did his best to be as professional as possible.. just about all the witnesses to the situation say he didn't lose his cool or start shouting, he cuffed Gates hands-front as opposed to hands-behind, got his cane from the house so he could walk easier, and put him in a large locked room with people he knew instead of a small holding cell with other detainees. Probably the only thing the cop did wrong was sticking around after Gates provided proof of who he was and that he lived there.

There is no news here. The cop made mistakes, Gates made mistakes. People lost their temper, just like everyone does every single day. The only people who care are the people who have an axe to grind, the people who want to use this to further their own agenda (white people are racists, Obama hates white people, fuck the police, etc).

What's confusing me is that your opening post doesn't shift the blame to those responsible for propagating these issues, at least not in the proper critical observation.

I think he was showing disgust for the people, not media, who either falsy accuse someone of rape for fame or gain, or accuse their arresting officer of racism.

It's not the media crying rape, it's the women. Although sometimes the media will cry racism when the criminal involved didn't necessarily say so himself, usually the criminal is trying to paint that picure, too.

The media has it's faults. It sensationalizes things and interjects it's own opinions on matters, and sometimes they have selective coverage so you hear more about one thing than another, and sometimes they even give you only half the story leading you a conclusion that one side was wrong when its more complicated than that. But they aren't the ones claiming someone got raped unless the alleged victim said so, first.

Obama basically said the Cops acted stupidly. I agree. Maybe Gates figured since he was in a rich neighborhood, he would get treated like all the other rich people?

Obama went down the middle on this one, but sided with his friend, admitting to having some bias. We would all do the same thing in this situation. He also said his friend made some mistakes and should have remained calm. Again, that's just good advice. Obama called Crowley an "outstanding police officer," but also said "it doesn't make sense to arrest a guy in his own home if he's not causing a serious disturbance." Is there anyone who SERIOUSLY thinks this wasn't an honest evaluation of the situation?

If you don't like Obama, you're going to attack him for this. If it were Rush Limbaugh who stepped out of line, the liberals would be pissed. And we're going to patronize the media outlets that support our biases. The problem is that so many of us just refuse to fucking recognize this. We pay selective attention to the evidence that supports our conclusions, and we pretend these are facts. We're fucking idiots.

Supervisor responds to a call for a break in in progress..... confronts the suspect from the 911 call. Gates REFUSED to show he lived at the house, if you followed this gates showed a harvard ID with his picture on it and would not acknowledge showing the sgt his ID/License with his address on it. Yelling pursued, probably got threatened that he was gonna be arrest and then finally showed the Sgt. his ID while still screaming.

Dont care what color you are.......... you sit there and scream at a cop your just asking for trouble, even 10 year olds know better than that.

Hell, this supervisor teaches classes on how to not racially profile people........... and gave mouth to mouth to reggie lewis before he died. Figured someone who was a severe racist, would not want to put his mouth on someone of color heh

I was talking about people who claim their officer was racist, or that someone famous raped them. Sure, the media might spin it to leave you thinking "wow, racist cop" but that doesn't change the guy himself saying it.

The media doesn't make people play the race or rape cards, people do it themselves (and then the media sensationalizes it).

Unless you're suggesting people do it because the media encourages it, or something, but it's still the people's fault.

Hell, elderly people call 911 just to talk to a person! Quite sad.... but they dont get arrested. Same for the people who call complaining about construction making too much noise.... a detail officer talking on his cell phone etc.... the 911 system is abused nationwide daily.

and I dont know why gates wouldn't of shown the Sgt. his ID.... both sides of the story state gates refused to show ID with his address on it, and eventually showed a harvard ID (Gates stated this in his story too) and all he had to do was show his drivers license which his address on it, and problem solved.
