Pulling music off Ipod

Long story short, I have some music on my Ipod that I don't have hard copies of anymore that I'm trying to get onto my iPhone.

Any tried and true methods/software to easily pull music off an Ipod?

I went through the process where you can access the Ipod like an HD, but how it places the music would make it a nightmare to pull a lot of stuff that way.

Truth is I never used iTunes with my iPod (hate the interface, always used Winamp, which is still my primary music program). I've only started using iTunes now since I have no choice with my phone.

But yeah, I was always under the impression iTunes will wipe music off an iPod it doesn't detect in the iTunes library?

How do you get it off a current iPhone? I've used yamipod and TuneTools 2 for getting music off iPods, but they don't seem to detect iPhones. At work we have a computer for music, and half the people trying to bring music in are only bringing in iPhones, instead of putting the music on flash drives or disc to bring it in.

It depends on how iTunes is set. If you have it set to automatically sync and you plug in a new device, then basically, yeah, it gives you the option to change the synced device to that one, and in that case it'll just clear whatever happened to be on the iPod before.

You can just set it to "manual" though and it won't mess with it.

Either way, iTunes doesn't really let you copy things off, other than purchased music from the Touch or iPhone. That's what third-party apps are for, though the touch based stuff is harder to find apps that work for.

Annoying, yes, but I can see how Apple is probably trying to avoid the huge finger-pointing for making casual piracy easier or whatnot.
