Wow i am really dissapointed in griffon. I really enjoy his fights and as mentioned i do think he is great for the sport. Joe Rogan said it best, you go out throwing punches like Forrest did against such a technical fighter such as Silva your going to get beat.

Seriously WTF at the Amir fight im so pissed off... I guess its like anything in sport REFs decision really can ruin things! That was never a stoppage and not only that the blatant punches to the back of the head, if any even landed?

I was shocked that Silva dominated Griffin as much as he did. Not quite sure why Forrest freaked out after the loss. He's lost before. And let's be 100% honest here. There's no stigma attached to you if you lose to Anderson Silva. Sounds like there might be more going on than we know. I still love Forrest because he's an entertaining fighter and he will go in and throw bombs with anyone.

As to the WEC card from last night, I thought from top to bottom it was a pretty fucking entertaining card. There wasn't a single fight where I was looking at the clock to see what time it was. The funny thing is right before they began round one I told my wife Bowles was going to knock out Torres in the first round. The guy has arguably the best chin in the WEC. When Torres had him backpedaling I had some doubts. Then came that monster fucking hook.

I will be honest, I had never seen Bowles fight before. I really have a hard time watching 145 and below, besides the top guys. That being said, I've always enjoyed Torres' fights and thought he was one of the best super light guys out there. I really hope they import some more talent from Japan and get a better tv deal than verses. They had a very entertaining card top to bottom and it's awesome that the lighter guys are getting a chance to shine. Just like boxing though, there's going to be a big hurdle of getting people to care about people that they think they could beat up. It is hard to convince people that a guy that weighs 135 lbs is a monster.

@Blarg - I don't think Forrest was being disrespectful on purpose, I just think he was super emotional and didn't want people to see him like that. That being said, it's still shitty. He has lost before, he'll lose again. As was pointed out, there is nothing wrong with losing to Anderson. If you get your ass kicked you gotta man up and congratulate that guy on a great fight/gameplan. Show the crowd that you'll be back next time. Him running makes everyone speculate that he can't take the fight game or that he's having a breakdown, Rampage style.

Seems that Diaz won't be fighting. Even if he does take the test today, he probably won't be able to pass it.

I've watched Bowles fight a handful of times now. He's got a fantastic chin, but he still has a lot to learn. Even after beating Torres, he needs to continue to develop. He reminds me of a younger Chuck Liddell. He will go toe to toe with anybody because he's got awesome power behind his punches, but sooner or later he's going to end up in the same boat. He's willing to take a fucking beating just to get a chance to put someone down. I think that's part of the reason why he's still undefeated. Shots that would put down another fighter he just shrugs off until he can work his way into a submission. Either way it was a phenomenal upset. Probably the biggest upset in their franchise's history. Yes even more than Brown vs Faber lol.

I agree. I almost always enjoy watching WEC fights. I was kinda surprised that Torres lost. He had been so dominating in the past, just goes to show, anyone can be beaten.

I lost a ton of respect for Griffin.
Remember how much shit people gave LeBron for leaving the court? Should we do the same to Forrest?

    Diaz-Hieron in Jeopardy

    by Loretta Hunt ([email protected])

A welterweight championship bout between Nick Diaz and Jay Hieron could be scratched from this Saturday’s Strikeforce “Carano vs. Cyborg” at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, Calif. Diaz failed to appear for a pre-fight drug test Friday scheduled by the California State Athletic Commission to complete his re-licensing in the state, as first reported by Wrestling Observer/Figure Four Online -- WWE, TNA, UFC and International Wrestling and MMA Headlines - Wrestling Observer/Figure Four Online.

CSAC Assistant Executive Officer Bill Douglas informed Sherdog.com that the test has been re-scheduled in Los Angeles on Monday, but could not guarantee the results would be back in time to approve the bout. Diaz’s longtime trainer and manager, Cesar Gracie, is unsure that the fighter will make the appointment at all.

Gracie, who was notified by email Wednesday that Diaz would have to test last Thursday or Friday, said Diaz was caught off-guard by what he calls a change in policy. According to Gracie, former CSAC Executive Officer Armando Garcia came to an agreement with the coach and fighter over a year ago that Diaz would be tested for marijuana, as well as all other non-approved substances, only on the nights of his scheduled bouts.

Gracie said Diaz has a legal medical prescription for marijuana to treat a hyperactivity disorder. Gracie said Garcia’s arrangement with the fighter allowed the state agency to recognize the fighter’s condition and gave Diaz a two-week window to flush the drug out of his system.

“They just changed the policy and gave us two days’ notice,” said Gracie. “We don’t have any options.”

In an email to Sherdog.com Saturday, the CSAC’s Douglas wrote, “Although the ‘Compassionate Use Act’ in California protects one from criminal prosecution, it does not shield (an athlete) from administrative action. The use of marijuana is a violation of the California Code of Regulations Rule 303.

“Armando Garcia's policies and agreements became null and void with his departure from CSAC in November 2008,” continued Douglas. “In terms of agreements, this CSAC administration does not make agreements or special policies with individuals that are in direct contradiction to our own rules.”

Gracie said Diaz missed the test Friday because he was unable to travel in time from his secluded training camp in Lake Tahoe. Gracie added that there was some hesitation in taking the test as well.

“He might test positive because the time frame that he works in -- it’s starting to get risky,” said Gracie, who said Diaz stopped taking the drug two weeks out from the event date. “Then what would happen if you test positive, not only do you not fight, but you can’t apply (for a license) for a year.”

Gracie said if the commission had given warning sooner, Diaz would have complied. Gracie said he had also informed Diaz Friday night that the bout had been cancelled per an email from the CSAC to Strikeforce. Gracie said he left messages with Diaz regarding the re-scheduled test, but was unsure if Diaz had received the information as of Saturday night.

Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker was not initially available for comment.

So, all he had to do is not smoke for a month, and not take his HA drugs two weeks before?

What a fucking moron. I could understand if it was a surprise Drug test, but he knew he was getting tested. I bet he goes to Rehab for weed. LOL

I never really respected Diaz before this. I respect him even less now. If this is your career, then you find a fucking alternative to weed. There are prescription drugs out there that will curb his "hyperactivity" and not give him a positive test. But he doesn't take that route, why exactly? Policy change or no, if Diaz is serious about fighting he needs to stop fucking smoking weed. Here's a novel concept.

    Stop smoking weed.

Diaz is freaking retarded. This is what, the 3rd time now he's gotten in trouble with this kind of bullshit? Seriously, put the blunt down for a couple of days. And what the fuck at Torres!? lost 50 bucks on that fight lol.

White: Fenway UFC; Second Oct. Show in Works; Sanchez Likely for Next Shot at Penn
    Sunday, August 09, 2009
    by Loretta Hunt ([email protected])

Boston’s famous Fenway Park is in the UFC’s sights, said UFC President Dana White at the post-fight press conference for UFC 101 early Sunday morning in Philadelphia. The state’s senate passed a bill on July 22 to regulate the sport, a first step that could see the Octagon makes its Massachusetts debut by next summer. White is a Boston native himself.

Meanwhile, White also mentioned that the promotion has other potential deals in play and could add another event to its October calendar in addition to UFC 104, which is scheduled for Oct. 24 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

    In other notes:

    • Diego Sanchez will likely get the next shot at B.J. Penn, according to Dana White.

    • Tito Ortiz will fight Mark Coleman next, said White. “I swear to God when I say this, I’m over it,” said White of his much-publicized rivalry with the former UFC champ. “(Tito) seems to be over it too, so we’ll see what happens.” Ortiz was cageside at UFC 101 Saturday.

    • Anderson Silva will likely rematch Dan Henderson at 185 pounds next, according to White.

    • On the Sakara-Leites split decision: “People are always subjective about decisions. I didn’t think he won, but I’m not a judge,” said White.

    • On the Hendricks-Sadollah stoppage: “I thought it was stopped early,” said White, “but I’m not the referee.” White said he was unsure if a rematch would be necessary. “(Hendricks) went out there and hurt (Sadollah) and the fight was stopped,” he said. “I don’t know if we need to rematch it or –- he won the fight.”

    • Ed Soares, Anderson Silva’s manager, said a fan “flipped off” the fighter and threw something at Silva after the fight. “It kind of p---ed me off,” said Soares.

    • Ricardo Almeida was waiting for his arm to pop so he could pass on Kendall Grove, until the Hawaiian adjusted his position to finish and Almeida wiggled his elbow free. As of 2:05 a.m. ET, Almeida said he couldn’t straighten his arm.

    • Kurt Pellegrino praised the hometown crowd and said that Josh Neer trash-talked during the fight. "You hit like a b--ch," was among the pleasantries.

    • UFC debutante Johny Hendricks said the suspect referee’s stoppage and the crowd’s booing did nothing to tarnish his victory. “Whenever I hit him, I saw his eyes roll in the back of his head,” said Hendricks. “He hit the floor. I tried to hurt him and hit him with everything I got, and the ref pulled me off. That’s all I can do. If I was the ref, then that’s a different story. If I was in that situation, I’d probably want him to pull me off.”

Speaking of stoppages. Did anyone feel the Torres/Bowles stoppage came a little late? Torres was still mounting a defense immediately after he went down. But after the one punch, he was out, clearly out. Hands down, head wide open. And Bowles got in another four or five punches before the ref jumped in. I'm all for letting guys go, but I thought he was clearly out and unable to defend himself. I'm not a real big fan of Torres, but I respect him and his accomplishments.

Late stoppages always worry me. You never want to see a fighter sustain a serious injury.
