Well I mean a bad night from the fact that all 3 of the "big" fights ended up kind of sucking. Silva is what he is, Penn looked nothing like his usual self + the judging there (I still think he lost the fight since he just had no aggression, but the scorecards were way too lopsided). Hughes and Gracie were honestly just way way too friendly about the fight. It's one thing to respect your opponent but outside of Hughes leg kicks and the finish it just seemed like a friendly sparring match, with neither fighter actually trying to capitalize on any opportunities, and when Hughes finally did, the fight was already over really.

The other fights were fine, but really, you can always expect the "smaller" fights to be good because the fighters are usually out there trying to make a name for themselves and move up in the world, especially in the case of undercard fights hoping to get thrown onto the televised card. The real value of a PPV imo is gonna be if the bigger fights end up being good, because since that's what you're ending the show on they're going to have a bigger impression.

Just thinking back to 111, when it comes of the top of my head right now, the main things that come to mind is Carwin hits like a freight train, Dan Hardy is batshit crazy, and GSP can't finish fights. The big fights at the end are the immediate things in my head. So in this case with 112, what comes to mind is a pair of disappointing title fights and Matt Hughes having to help pick his opponent up off the mat while the clock is still running (ok and Munoz can obviously take a serious beating, maybe Hamill's knockout jiggled something loose in his brain and you can't knock him out anymore, cause that uppercut and the knee should have sent his eyes rolling into the back of his head).

After this I'm prolly skipping 113 (at the very least I'm not paying for it, maybe just go to a bar), since I fear Machida/Shogun II will end up just as dull as the first one.

Apparently the judges scored the Silva/Maia fight 50-45, 50-45, 49-46.

I'm very surprised that only one judge gave him only one round, I thought he won the 5th and could've won the 4th.

There is a screenshot of the decision where it says silva wins a majority decision which would mean that 1 judge had the fight a draw which would probably be a 10-8 maia 5th round and a 10-9 4th. This obviously contradicts what the judges scores were so I don't know what is up with that

I say let him fight Sonnen on a Fight Night card. Sonnen will at least engage him and let Anderson do his counterpunching thing...also too, Sonnen is a HELL of a shit talker and may be able to motivate Silva into actually attacking. Then let him fight at 205/Heavy like he wants 'cause those guys won't be sitting back and staring at him.

The fight between Hughes/Gracie just looked like a friendly sparring match with neither person looking like they wanted to hurt the other one. Was a very odd thing to see. Renzo should be fighting at 155...maybe he'll drop down now.

He'll probably fight Vitor first, since that's who he was supposed to fight in the first place.

fight was supposed to happen twice but pushed back due to injuries suffered by both. I'm pretty damn sure Vitor will give Anderson a run for his money.

I'm interested in who the UFC wants to have the next title shot between belfort and sonnen. I would think belfort because he is too risky to lose if they give him another fight in the meantime though I think sonnen can talk enough to have fans want to see him first.

BJ's trainer did an interview and said that he had it scored for BJ, but says they aren't upset with the decision. He said BJ had a sinus infection for the last two weeks and BJ wasn't really himself and that they want a rematch ASAP. That would explain BJ looking a bit tired and apprehensive...I am not big on excuses but BJ hasn't said anything about it and even released a video congratulating Frankie on his win, so I feel that's probably legit. I hope they get a rematch before he defends against anyone else.

Looks like Kenny Florian got a staph infection and is having surgery. Not a big deal as far as surgery goes, but still probably won't be fighting as soon as he'd hoped now.

BJ was on the sports junkies this morning, radio show in DC, and he said he has been contacted by UFC and expects a rematch in 3-4 months. the junks dont really do much MMA coverage on their show but it was actually a very good interview.

Free strikeforce this weekend, pretty excited about that.

Plus it's a pretty stacked card.

    Hendo vs. Shields
    Mousasi vs. King Mo
    Aoki vs. Melendez
    Miller vs Stout

The top 3 are all title bouts, gonna be a very nice night of fights.

I can safely say I have no idea how the Aoki/Melendez fight will turn out. Hendo/Shields will be either an exciting Hendo beatdown or a boring Shields decision. Mousasi is going to effortlessly work King Mo.

Every time Aoki beats a solid guy I am pretty surprised. He is really good but I expect him to lose all the time. So to not break with tradition I think Melendez can get the KO eventually. He made big improvements in his last few fights and I think if he follows a good game plan he can just avoid Aoki's strength.

I think Hendo will eventually win but it's possible he gasses sometime in the 3rd and gets taken down and subbed after that.

I feel I may both be underrating and overrating both Mo and Mousasi at the same time for some reason. Mousasi kind of came out of nowhere in the dream tournament but he didn't really beat amazing guys and looked mortal vs sokoudjou so it's possible he isn't a top 5 guy just yet. He does have that calm confidence that I really like though.

With Mo the guy is simply a natural at the game and has picked up effective striking fairly quickly for really only being in the fighting game for a bit under 2 years, plus he has amazing wrestling to fall back on. His brilliance has only been showcased against sub par competition and some guys can look unbeatable vs cans but fail vs good-average competition. Plenty of unknowns for both guys and I might be looking forward to this one the most.
