Considering Melendez's strategy/prep, this is exactly what I expected. Aoki has GLARING weaknesses, and Melendez read him properly.

I really don't understand why some fighters who HAVE to win on the ground go to open guard and essentially allow the other fighter to stand up. I know they try to sweep from open guard but that really only works if the guy on top actually wants to be there. I also would have liked Aoki to try to spin and grab a leg or something, either he gets the leg or the guy tries to scramble away leaving an opportunity for Aoki to jump on him.

I completely agree.

Now, in most circumstances when Aoki had closed guard, Melendez would push him into the cage (which is smart) but still - letting Melendez stand up is just...I don't know.

When Aoki let go of mission control the one time he had it, I was about to scream at my computer screen. You need some separation for most subs, but still. I don't get it.
