Why the Boxing format was ever used to begin with is still weird to me. Points in MMA don't benefit from KO's and points are rarely taken away within a 3-5 round span. Where as in Boxing has 10-12 rounds to display a much more convincing decision should it go to judges. This doesn't even take into consideration an obvious bias towards certain actions in MMA, i.e. leg kicks vs. take-downs.

It's just because of archaic state laws governing fighting - they had to fit MMA into boxing's mold in order to get sanctioned, which obviously is fucking stupid.

I don't think the 10-point must MMA scoring system will ever change in America, too much bureaucratic bullshit in the way.

I'd love to see a ten minute first round in UFC. I think it would allow for more clean finishes and less judging decisions in the short term. In the long term, guys are gonna continue to get better and better and I think fights will end up going to decision more and more.
I read somewhere that the UFC was thinking of having old fighters be judges and opening up training programs for judges.
Also, I think they need to reposition where the judges sit. I forget what fight it was(maybe Shogun - Machida), one judge said that he couldn't see part of the fight because of a corner of the octagon blocking his line of sight to the fighters.

Machida eats extreme aggression alive so I would be very surprised if anyone can finish him early. I guess that really only applies to aggressive striking so shogun could possibly get an early submission but I don't see this ending in the first 2 rounds.

Best part of the press conference was watching Shogun laughing at it all. Paul said "well a lot of people think kos is a dick, but whatever" and Shogun looks down at the floor and starts laughing.

I think it was the right decision, the announcers were pulling really hard for Huerta but he never did much. If he could have held onto the back longer he could have gotten the last round but nothing was really done with it.
