obviously going arlovski, velasquez, jon jones, mousasi sucks but damn did he come in looking like shit. missed weight by like 7 pounds or something.
Joined a MMA gym last night, first class was BJJ. Damn im in so much pain this morning. Everything aches lol. Shows me how truly unfit i am. Looking forward to doing Wrestling next.
Gym runs 4 classes a week each in different arts (BJJ,Boxing,Wrestling,Striking). Striking and Kicking i think ill stay away from for a few weeks until my fitness picks up.
Learned some good defenses while in butterfly guard.
Anyone else do BJJ or any other forms of MMA?
Talk to Jyakku and Noblemountain.
On another note, Kennedy vs Jacare for the Strikeforce MW title is official. I think the match up is smart. Both guys are really marketable and the fight should be good. Kampmann vs Shields is also official. I see Shields getting his butt rocked... But then I said that about the Hendo fight too.
Lot of good MMA coming up in August. UFC/Strikeforce/WEC/Bellator, lots of good stuff.
I found that my fitness was tested far more in my BJJ/Submission Wrestling classes than the kickboxing ones... of course your shins will take a beating which doesn't make it any easier
Also, I'm hoping Kampmann can show some level of takedown offense but Shields will probably decision him. Shields kickboxing and GNP pillow punches are dreadful to watch though... I'm really not cheering for him in his WW run. Personally I think he will do better at MW
I'm actually excited to see him able to use elbows. His game lends itself to elbows really well and he has talked about how hampering that rule has been to his style. I just want someone to give GSP a little trouble. lol
As far as starting to workout in MMA...wrestling class is going to kick your ass. Jiu Jitsu will as well until you're conditioned better. Kickboxing/Thai Boxing/Western Boxing aren't that bad really. Most people are used to using their arms for things so they don't wear out as quickly. Most people aren't used to controlling another human using all the muscles in your back/abs/thighs/shoulders. You will fatigue much faster grappling generally. Being a wrestler first I have had to adjust a lot to the boxing training. My feet wanna move like a wrestler and I am not the best at circling out yet either. I tend to fall back into my old habits.
I took a boxing and a muay thai class at Bas Rutten's gym up in Westlake village or whatever. Boxing was fine, it was remarkable how naturally some of the stuff came (falling back to, um, Hwa Rang Do training when I was like 11 years old) but other things like throwing an uppercut were totally foreign hips/knees movement.
On the other hand the muay thai class we worked in the clinch the whole time. My fucking neck and shoulders hurt for like 4 days from getting pulled down on.
I didn't really think about that. I was a Greco wrestler so I'm used to people pulling on my head and neck. Probably didn't bother me 'cause of that. Most of the boxing stuff is pretty easy for me. I am just having a little problem with my speed and feet. I tend to put too much into each punch instead of pacing myself.

Yeah, but TBA will take it.
Not sure if anyone here saw the last ShoMMA card on the 23rd but Kaufman slammed the happy out of Modafferi lol. The mens HW division is starting to get really interesting too besides the clusterfuck up top by Coker, Shane del Rosario is definitely going to be a top prospect in a year or two.

Roxxi wasn't smiling after that.
mma sites need to include first names in their headlines
reading 'silva out of ufc 117' is a frightening thing to read at first until you find out it isn't referring to anderson
still sucks that thiago is out, i like him
