Hominick did get hit a few times with a couple shots, but how anyone gave that fight to Garcia I'll never know. Mark ran that shit.
By default, I pretty much root for all Canadian fighters. But Hominick is one of the few that I don't feel guilty about doing it. He's an awesome fighter with some absolutely amazing fights. Him and Jason MacDonald are probably my favourite Canadian fighters.
Good news, everyone!
Arianny's playboy pics have leaked
oh and strikeforce is tomorrow
Nick Diaz (c) vs. KJ Noons
Sarah Kaufman (c) vs. Marloes Coenen
Josh Thomson vs. Gesias Cavalcante
Tyron Woodley vs. André Galvão
I don't really think noons will win, though I give it a pretty decent chance, but I'm banking on Diaz fighting against the gameplan for long enough to lose a decision or a possible early stoppage tko. Coenen also stands a good chance, I thought she looked good against cyborg despite the huge disadvantages she had, and I'd like to see her win. Thomson should win a decision. Woodley by being a better prospect.
Pretty good card last night. Diaz/Noons fight was close and it was a great fight that would have been a lot better without Mauro licking Diaz's balls every other comment.
BLARG HOW DARE YOU
Getting punk'd is the only thing Mauro is good for.
JZ won that fight dammit
JZ won the fight. Judges need to stop awarding rounds to fighters for their action in the last 30 seconds compared to the rest of round. On what grounds do they award more points for aggression in the last 30 seconds than for the other 4:30? Is the rest of the round filler? We need judges that don't have the memory of goldfish; better yet, judges that pay attention and understand the game.
Note: I had no preferred fighter to win, but I do believe a win was stolen from JZ. A knockdown+minute long submission attempt =/ arm triangle for eight seconds.
If leonard garcia added useless takedowns at the end of the round to his missing windmills he would be unbeatable in a fight going to decision.
Reminds me of the recent TUF episode with Michael Johnson vs. the British dude where the British guy was losing the second round and Koshcheck started yelling at him for takedowns to win back the round lol.
Takedowns win all. Don't try and fight it.
Eventually, guys are going to:
Get a takedown
Stand up directly after
Get a takedown
Stand up directly after
Get a takedown
Stand up directly after
Win
If I was a fighter I'd do it just to prove a point.
The first step to stopping it would be making sure the announcers stop giving any credence to it and actively talk about why a takedown like that shouldn't be worth many 'points'.
The problem is the judging criteria and the talent of the judges, most of them have zero MMA experience.
Well they are hired by commissions which are government bodies so they will never admit to error unless the public outcry is deemed more dangerous to them. The judging rules even state that the takedown that leads to nothing shouldn't be worth much, it also downplays just how much 'octagon control' is really worth which many fighters have exploited to win rounds (hey randy) but the judges don't seem to know this. Unless the viewing public is told that holding someone against the fence and doing nothing is worth, basically nothing, they won't speak out against some of these decisions because it's basically been put into peoples minds that octagon control is something that it really isn't, and that it is worth quite a bit, which it isn't.
I would also like to see something like what boxing does where it lists the judges notable fights. Some of these commissions give important fights to boxing judges doing their first mma fight. Something like that should be unforgivable but no one really knows and just thinks it's a mma judge they haven't heard of yet
Problem is, if standup is roughly even - then also on the criteria for a round are aggression and effective grappling - a takedown scores points in both of those categories so they will frequently have a hard time deciding who won, and just go with whoever got the takedown based on that.
( A bigger problem is that a sweep/reversal doesn't get scored as highly because the judges are inept ).
I agree something equivalent to boxrec would be amazing. Then again I can name a few judges who should be barred. ( Doug Crosby, Adelaide Byrd, Cecil Peoples. )
Well if the standup is even then something like a takedown tipping that scale is understandable, though if little/nothing is done with the takedown or if the other guy gets up right away a 10-10 round would make sense. But it's rarely the case where the round was actually even up to that point and usually the takedown is judged to overcome a sizable deficit of offense.
My biggest problem with MMA judging is the lack of 10-10 rounds. With a 3 or 5 round fight, you have to weigh each round much heavier than you do in boxing where it doesn't matter if you give a couple close rounds to a fighter most of the time because it'll work itself out in the end. You almost never see 10-10 rounds in MMA though, which is sad.
You also have to lay some fault on the UFC for hiring some of these guys who do nothing but lay on guys for 3 rounds. I know as a "purist", I'd love to see them fight the best and lose...but our world isn't ideal and our judging sucks, so don't even give these guys contracts. Get some guys who are going to work for the finish the whole fight. MMA should be about trying to finish. If you don't, but you worked hard for it...ok...but all this BS about game-plan to win fights however they can is silly to me.
