Kim never fought in pride. He also seems to be the only asian fighter to be into the trash talking a bit which was cool to see before this fight and during it when he let diaz land some shots from bottom

Diaz should be the fresher fighter, as he has good gas and Kim tires late pretty often, so lets see what he can do in the third.

Diaz just took a big Dong shot in the face.

( Does this amuse anyone else as much as it does me? So childish and puerile but so entertaining ).

Kim is using his acting skills a bit here. I always hate how some fighters can take huge hits to the face that are legal but a normal power hit that was illegal seems to destroy their ability to move.

I know where you're coming from but I can see the fighters POV.

A fighter shouldn't have to worry about illegal shots, eg they don't have to cover themselves from knees when on the ground - it needs to be a fair ruleset. If someone breaks those rules they deserve to be punished because the fighter won't expect to have to defend those shots, so if they act a little to ensure the opponent is penalised... you can kinda see why they do it.

That said it's still not pretty to watch ( Josh Koscheck Oscar performance ).

Kim will get it by being on top in the second even though he was mostly defending

If you judge it under the 10 point must system, Dong clearly won.
If you judge it as a fight, Diaz won.

I know why they do the acting but the ref usually reacts whether they play it up or not. Doing it mostly ends up with fans booing them.

Being on top shouldn't mean shit if you aren't doing more with it. This wasn't a robbery by any means but an active diaz guard is more threatening and offensive than most peoples top game but it, for whatever reason, isn't seen as such.

If Vera fights aggressive he should be able to win this but he is way too passive in his fights so Silva can probably get this done.

Kim was constantly trying to pass and often did, though he could rarely hold the pass, and Diaz threw up almost nothing of consequence; Kim saw every submission attempt coming from a mile away and defended accordingly.

Kim wins that fight under MMA rules, he wins that fight on points under BJJ or Judo rules. An active guard is real nice but unless you actually land a submission or sweep you've just lost the positional hierarchy game and took more GnP than you delivered.

I don't believe in a positional hierarchy. Maybe in BJJ where you need a way to basically tie break a fight that doesn't have a finish or judges (and most of the grapplers are rather even so being on top usually is an advantage) but since mma is so diverse being on top means different things based on who is fighting who. Put almost anybody on top of Maia and that person is probably not in the dominant position but the rules apparently want to say he is. What I think should happen is that if a position is ACTUALLY dominant than they will be able to do more things offensively from there and that's how they will get their extra points. It lets the offensive happen rather than assuming it happened beforehand based on position. But anyway, the Kim fight wasn't really a bad call so this is more about judging in general than the actual fight.

If you miss a punch do you get any points?
So why do you want to give points for failed submission attempts, that means the opponent had better effective grappling and he should be rewarded for it.
