48-46 is scoring the first round 10-8 for Maynard and scoring the rest for Edgar, which isn't beyond comprehension. Edgar outgrappled Maynard for the last 4 rounds and I'm sure compustrike will show he landed more shots, though they were of considerably less power.

No scores of 49-46 or 48-47, all 3 judges score the first round 10-8.

Overall this card was insane and blew away my expectations. On paper, Edgar/Maynard was suppose to be the most boring fight on it lol.

Apparently Pettis will get the next title shot. I think it makes sense since this merger is a one time only thing and it would be weird to have pettis fight someone else while still the champ and you don't want a guy like that to sit out. The maynard edgar rivalry will always be there and win or lose they will fight again with that drama still there. Apparently not

Power punches were even. Nearly every strong punch kim threw from top missed or hit diaz's arms first before making small contact. It's hard to divorce yourself from what is basically ingrained that being on top is winning ('the rules do say that the top fighter is 'generally' able to throw harder shots', it doesn't say that them being on top means those shots actually are hard though, you have to let that part play out to see if the advantage was there and I don't think it was) but if you can that round is much closer. Full guard is supposed to be a neutral position so it's basically weighing the extra punches versus the points of the takedown itself to decide the winner. Sweeps are supposed to be equal to a takedown and there was a moment, I think, where diaz swept to briefly get the back but didn't really do much with it.
