Well strikeforce seems to be going foreward with its 8 man HW tourney. I'm pretty excited for it since it guarantees some good matchups to happen.

Fedor Emelianenko, Antonio Silva, Josh Barnett, Fabricio Werdum, Sergei Kharitonov, Andrei Arlovski, Brett Rogers, Alistair Overeem

Fedor vs Silva, and Arlovski vs Sergei is on the first card on feb 12 and then on march 5 it's Barnett vs Rogers and Overeem vs Werdum.

I'd expect Fedor, Arlovski, Barnett and Overeem to all advance and aside from Arlovski any of those have a good chance to win it all. Werdum does have a good chance to win his fight but it's a shame he probably won't advance. I think a matchup with Barnett would be great between those 2.

40% chance that Barnett doesn't get cleared or tests positive for steroids for the 4th time.
25% chance Overeem forgets where strikeforce even is, gets lost, and fights K1 somewhere instead

It's not so much a tournament as it is match-making finally making sense. Hope SF can pull this off.

EDIT: Nevermind, just took a look at the brackets and SF is already fucking up.

EDIT2: Actually, I'd rather have it this way. SF is going to blow their load on the quarter/semi-finals but we have a bigger chance of seeing Fedor/AO or Fedor/Werdum.

It actually does make some sense if you look at it from a normal match-making perspective. Overeem/Werdum was the next proper title bout with Fedor/Bigfoot for contendership. Everyone else on the other bracket would've needed a good solid 2-3 wins before a title shot.

I agree though, for a tournament it's stupid to seed all your best fighters on one side. I just think of this as a series of matches that were supposed to happen a long time ago with SF slapping the "Grand Prix" label on it for promotional purposes.

So Akiyama is fighting Marquardt. I'm not sure why losing to leben meant he had to get a tougher fighter in bisping and losing to him meant he gets a tougher fighter in Nate.

Oh, and I'm betting that Fedor wins his tournament fight and then doesn't fight again in the next round. He loves to break his hand and they have basically given him an opponent with an anvil for a face which is just disastrous for fedors thumbs.

There is a strikeforce challengers card on tonight with 2 good prospects on it in woodley and cormier. It's a good enough card to at least put the player down in the corner of your screen while you do other things on the computer.

It's usually the pinky and index fingers that break. At least that's what I broke when I use to box.
