Honestly, no matter who wins it'll shut a lot of people up. It's pretty hardcore gauntlet.
What if Kharitonov wins
Then these fucking brackets make absolutely no sense then if the title isn't on the line.
The brackets don't make sense if you can make everything go your way but you can't guarantee the guys you want end up in the finals. If all you assume is that Fedor wins his first fight then you get a huge fight guaranteed with either overeem, which is a fight talked about for a while, or a big rematch with Werdum. If you put fedor and overeem on opposite sides you would have to assume 4 fights go the way you want to set up that one huge fight.
Yeah, they're trying to make sure that Fedor/Overeem happens, basically - risking less than putting them in opposite brackets this way. Getting Fedor to agree to fights is a bitch, might as well make them count.
none of it will matter when fedor breaks his hand on big foots big head and is replaced by herschell walker, who then runs the table.
brackets make sense from a business standpoint, they're unfortunate from a professional or fairness standpoint. it'd be like making sure Nadal and Federer meet in the round of 32 by giving them ridiculous rankings instead of having them earn the right to face one another for a title.
but Strikeforce is pulling a Pride and won't even have the title on the line so we might get a Silva-Arona / Gomi-Aurelio situation where the champion's title is meaningless.
but ultimately it's just about fights and bless Strikeforce for finally utilizing their terrific heavyweight division. it's the only division in MMA that can challenge one of the UFC's in awesomeness and this tournament is sure to churn out some great fights.
just watch overeem beat everyone and then have no one interesting left to actually fight for his title since everyone else would be coming off a loss basically
if Overeem beats everyone that is in his way Strikeforce will have the most marketable fighter not in the UFC and not named Gina and the #1 heavyweight in the world.
don't think Coker would complain too much.
This tournament is going to answer A LOT of questions about this new Ubereem.
that marketability will really help him in k1
which glibness aside is an issue his success or failure in this tournament does not effect
