Nate's going to dominate, you're safe with that one
When Nate lost at middleweight it was usually because he got outwrestled and Story has some good wrasslin, plus an in your face style and furious pace that some guys, even more skilled guys like Johnny Hendricks, can't handle. Marquardt doesn't like to be pressured and the weight cut could hurt as he wasn't a small middleweight and if Alves bombs couldn't lay Story out I think Nate has to go for a decision win which will not be easy.
see a close fight either way but going with Story
I think the deciding factor in both fights (sonnen/okami) were size and strength, as they were both bigger than him. Nate should be one of the strongest in the weltereweight division, and from what I've seen from Story, he isn't explosive enough to take down Nate.
Kongo is more the favourite because half the time he thinks he is a wrestler (and sometimes does it decently) and if he is smart he will just get an easy takedown against the cage and GNP a decision, or a stoppage if HD's ground game is still super shit. It sucks, since I love Pat, but a wrestling Kongo beats him more often than not. I also think Story will win but probably not a crushing victory.
See, I don't think size or even pure wrestling skill was the primary difference in the Okami/Sonnen fights I think it was the constant pressure they put on him. Nate is a tactical guy, a cerebral guy, he likes to think out his moves and plan his counters. You get in his face, you get on him and he goes into a defensive mode.
Sonnen absolutely mauled him by never giving him a moment's rest, constant pressure standing or from top position and Nate spent 90% of the fight in purely reactive mode. Ironically Sonnen did the same thing to Okami who's a thinker too but Okami used a lot of standup aggression behind that newfound jab and all Nate did was back away from it or slip it, especially in the decisive third round, he never just stepped to the outside and threw a hard cross which is the most basic counter to a guy who is jab spamming (see Penn-Hughes III).
And I'm positive Nate knows that counter but in the moment, under pressure, he was unable to pull the trigger and lost the round and the fight by backing away and looking for space and a pause that never came.
Nate's a thinker and if you don't give him time/space to think he is real beatable. Story is a specialist at forcing opponents into ugly, dirty dogfights where thought is a tertiary concern. Nate's jits is better, his standup is cleaner and crisper, he has more experience and may be the better athlete but unless he's worked on this flaw Story is going to exploit it.
well this is all for not because Nate is now out of the fight. Charlie Brenneman will step in to take on Story. Barry vs Kongo is now the main event

Edit:
"Nate Failed His Medicals" - Dana White
Starting to sound like PEDs... Which Nate has been caught doing before.
They do pre-fight drug testing? I thought they just drew the blood right before and tested it after?
It may be that he disclosed some supplement in the pre fight that turned out to be banned but I don't think they can do any testing before the fight.
Well, time to change some bets around.
It's the HIV.
Remember you read it here first.
fucking bullshit, nate's one of my favorite fighters
I'm so fucking glad that the UFC takes this shit seriously, they get so much respect from me for that. Professional sports organizations like MLB who just turn a blind eye to it frustrate me so much.
anyone watch Bellator tonight? Good night of fights, 3 finishes. Curran with a first round peruvian necktie was greatness.
