I think everyone in the MMA scene should avoid calling someone the 'Michael Jordon of' because with the above statement and the one by Goldberg where he said Lutter was the MJ of BJJ it seems to be either very stupid or a curse

he could have been if he didn't throw away the last third of his career

hard to think he'll be remembered as the GOAT if Silva and GSP continue as they have been

Most fighters don't last more then 10 or so years anyway, so I'd say Fedor's current loses are actually par the course at this point.

but Anderson Silva is two years older and debuted three years earlier

Fedor seems as fast as ever (and obviously hits as harder if not hard than ever) and speed is the first thing to fade, physically he's still near his peak he just let the game pass him by.

Too many cans, too many freak show matches, too long of breaks, he lost the edge he stopped evolving and he stopped winning

I guess that's what separates Anderson and Fedor. Anderson is the best he's ever been at 36, while Fedor is at the end-point of his career at 35.

Yeah, Hendo too. There's a few exceptions.

But I mean Couture had about 10 good years in him. Liddell and Hughes too. Just how it goes.

Even then I think it's bullshit. Chael Sonnen said it best, these guys were supposedly the best, crushing cans in Japan, and the second they fight in the states they start losing like crazy. Anderson and GSP are already more worthy then Fedor for GOAT.

Fedor laid a beating on a prime Nog and Cro Cop and knocked off a half dozen UFC champions along the way, he fought a lot of cans and threw away the tail end of his career but that doesn't detract from his greatness, he is easily and unarguably the greatest Heavyweight in MMA history if nothing else.

GOAT HW I can agree with but point still stands. Nog and Cro Crop are shells of their former selves ever since their UFC debut which again, says a lot about the JP competition they supposedly dominated. His best wins are trash fighters nowadays, and it's not even like any of them are old as fuck.

Don't get me wrong, I got a gang of PrideFC dvd's in my collection and will forever be a fan of Wand but lets be real, we all know a lot of the shit that went on in Japan was theatrics.

It's always horrible to see at least decent athletes declining but this is getting sad. He should have at least given himself the opportunity to fight on the main stage before the downfall.

Every HW in the history of MMA has fought a few cans along the way. Sylvia/Couture/Fedor/Nogueira//Mir/Arlovski/Cro Cop. Basically any HW that's been fighting for 10 years has fought at least 1 opponent they really shouldn't have been fighting.

I think people harp on Fedor for this the most because of his win streak. If he had a loss or two in there, I doubt people would care as much.

Sylvia and Couture never fought Choi Hong-man or Yuji Nagata when the latter's combined records were 1-1

    Exactly.

His win streak seems more manufactured then most, I mean Hong-Man Choi? Really? And his fan-base loves to point to this saying he "loves" to fight bigger opponents. Having fought legit fighters here and there with a loss is fine, constantly cruising in between with cans you'll eventually get exposed.

I always considered his fight with Arona a loss anyway.

Fedor has a ton of natural talent but the years of training in Russia with training partners that aren't very elite eventually had everyone else catch up and surpass him I think. In pride so many fights were done on weeks notice so those with strong natural abilities could destroy everyone easier since heavy preparation wasn't really possible.
