Cortez (the referee) motioned for them to fight on initially but seemed to change his mind immediately after doing it and wasn't even watching the fighters, he barely seemed to register what Mayweather did

what a shit reffing job

and Mayweather is a jerk but Merchant was being disrespectful, as he has a long, long history of doing. For a man who has never boxed in his life he talks shit constantly to boxers both in and out of the ring. De La Hoya hated him too.

you can't see it in the GIF but after separating them the ref stands in the middle of the ring and extends an arm to each corner and brings them together in the universal fight-on gesture, Ortiz even said he was preparing to fight after the hug ended Mayweather just punched too fast.

There's plenty of boxing fans in this thread. The shit is just too dull to discuss in a thread of it's own with all the political bullshit that goes on. Top level fights damn near never happen unless your name is Mosley and needs a paycheck. Like how I would love for Floyd to go up against either Amir or Manny next but that won't happen because this is a sport where top level fighters literally hand-pick their opponents. Shit gets old. The boxing stars of today are the only stars this sport is ever going to produce again with the way it's structured.

Shit's going to be dead in 5~7 years when those in the spot light are way out of their prime.
