True, but he's not exactly helping himself out after cussing out a 90 year old man. And I think the bigger issue some people are having with this is the fact that if Mayweather was as good as he says he is, he shouldn't need to pull dirty stuff like that.

Everyone I was watching it with was laughing for pretty much 10-15 minutes straight as soon as that fight was over. Entertainment, yes. Good for boxing? hell nah.

Also, I found it hilarious during the second round when the commentators made a comment about how Ortiz apparently can keep up with Mayweather, which felt like an unintentional comment about the nature of big name fighters hand picking their opponents to pad their record.

Mayweather had every right to call him out though. Merchant cut him off mid sentence, (Even though floyd was justing BS'ing) to say that Mayweather was being dirty. Nothing about that punch was dirty. Ref resumed the fight, Mayweather PAUSED, shook hands, WAITED, and then fought.

I'm all for giving a good interview, but I bet even Larry Merchant would admit he was just trying to rile up Mayweather. Dude was 3 minutes out of being hyped up on adrenaline and you try to test him? Of course he's going to bark back.

It's amazing the amount of my friends riding on Mayweather's nuts. With that being said while I think it was definitely silly of Ortiz to go in for yet another fucking apology Mayweather knew damn well that Ortiz wasn't ready to fight and decided to take the free shot he saw. I've done my fair share of competitive fighting and if I see a guy with his hands down and open I know he isn't ready to fight and I know that I can end things quickly if I feel like it, which is what he did. Those millions of dollars came a' calling and he said "well shit, why not".

Do you guys remember hearing Mayweather's name in the late 90s / early 2000s, when he was an undefeated Olympic medalist featherweight champion who was the media's darling, humble, respectful, and praised God in every post-fight interview while maintaining a decent knockout percentage?

Me either, and he fought for peanuts. He was never a draw, no one ever gave a shit about him just as no one ever gave a shit abut Whitaker or Wright or Toney just as no one has ever really cared about quiet, defense-oriented boxers. It was only after embracing the heel, becoming a villain, that he began to draw, that he began to sell fights, and to this day more people tune in to watch him lose that 0 than they do to watch his modified Philly shell.

I don't like the guy, but his mom left him, his dad went to prison, and when he played the bright-eyed, bushy-tailed kid no one cared, no one gave two fucks about his career. He has issues and his ring persona is that of a jerk but by all acounts he takes care of his own and donates a tremendous amount of money to charity, he even goes so far as to hush that up because it would conflict with the image he's sending out there.

He is what the public has made him, an angry, brash, arrogant black man that everyone hates and wants to see lose. And all he cares about is winning because he'll never be loved, he's given up even trying to be.

No bullshit, I think Ortiz was paid handsomely and Floyd was in there to collect dues. The guy is legitimately a fucking mental retard otherwise, he had that 4th round won and decides to headbutt Floyd for no reason. Then after that he forgets the number one rule of always keeping yourself protected in the ring and gets KTFO. Floyd was gone for 16 months and a lot of people have a lot of money invested in him only for him to lose to someone not named Pacquiao.
