and yeah, he could "handle me". i'm only a blue belt and he could take me apart however he wanted but the results don't lie. look at who wins ADCC and Mundials and what kind of grappling is most effective in MMA and you'll see what's most effective

Just looking at the top of the game isn't the most accurate indicator though because compared to the rest of the BJJ world like 0.01% of the competitors even try that style so the talent pool from which to draw a world class athlete is so so so much smaller. So even if the style was equal or better than traditional bjj you wouldn't expect to see a huge impact into the competitive world anyway

Uh, Denny Prokopos (Eddies first and only black belt to date) won worlds 2010 lol. 10th planets jiu-jitsu isn't end all but neither is traditional, I find that a mesh of the two works really well. Both systems have their gimmicks and moves that are just for show and would never work in a street fight, in most situations you're fighting more than one person or his buddies are threatening to jump in at sign of their homeboy getting beat the fuck down, last thing you want to do is end up on the ground after putting him in a flying triangle.

Also, the subbing Royler thing, the reason it was such a big deal for the 10th planet system was because of the set up, if you rewatch the video, just before he works the triangle, he used the "jail break" to get out of side control.

Didn't see any one talking about the Silva trash talking Sonnen. Was never a "hyper train" person but now more excited for this fight.

Denny won a Worlds? far as i know no 10th Planet guy has ever won a Mundials black belt division gi or nogi. can count the number of Americans who have gold'd on two hands too

i don't mean to talk too much shit, like i said i personally use some of Bravo's moves. it just gets annoying that the system receives so much press and adulation outside the grappling community when American grapplers like Ryan Hall and Jeff Glover have accomplished more than Bravo on the competition circuit and made more significant theoretical contributions

full disclosure Glover is one of my instructors and i live/train about 90 miles from 10th Planet so there might be a touch of bias

I swear I am calling in sick if I am scheduled to work during the main card next weekend. Who do you guys got for this? Hoping all the talk about Silva wanting to sub him in the first fight was true and he just goes in there and wrecks him, but if Sonnen brings it.. gonna be a damn good fight again.
