Can't blame Hendo too much. That shot still should have been his. Or at worst Gustafsson's. Sonnen shouldn't have gotten this shot no matter how you spin it.
well on the upside we'll be treated to another brutal, one-sided, very satisfying beatdown of that trash talking loudmouth.
What do you mean? Sonnen is going to beat his ass.
oh i know i was talking about jon jones![]()
Has Chael even won a LHW fight? If he has, it sure as hell wasn't in a major org cause he got smashed by Babalu and Horn.
Can't hate on the UFC too much for this decision, from what I've read every legit LHW turned down the fight.
except Hendo and Machida
Is Hendo's injury putting him out for that long? Sheesh what a shallow division, Glover fucking outright said he would fight Jones at any time after his bout. Fuck this garbage.
Glover still too green, Kingsbury and Maldonado aren't exactly blue chip competition. Wouldn't mind seeing Glover fight the last nigga that fucked up Kingsbu and then a top 10 before a title shot, 4 fights seems fair before getting a shot.
All of the other LHW turned down short notice fights which is completely different than a fight many months away with a full training camp. Despite how green Glover is and how strange it would seem for him to get a title shot so early he is still many times more qualified to get a title shot as compared to Sonnen.
I listened to a bit of the conference call about the next TUF which dana was on today and it seems like he is justifying it as saying that Jon is injured so he won't be able to fight for several months anyway so he can easily do TUF while he heals, and that makes sense then to have Jon on TUF. He then says that the reason Sonnen is coaching opposite Jon is that the other guys turned down fights with Jon and Sonnen was the only one to step up for ufc 151. So he seems to be ignoring that those fighters turned down very important fights on very short notice and using it as evidence that none of them would want to fight him after a full training camp and doing TUF, which isn't the case.
There also seemed to be a barely concealed punishment/reward thing going on where he is mad at those guys who didn't step up to save ufc 151 so he is saying Fuck You to them and giving Sonnen a nice reward even though what Sonnen did was hardly heroic as it was a win/win for him to fight Jon even on such short notice. Basically it's a public whip and carrot message for the fighters to step up and take those kinds of fights and not turn them down as well as a barely disguised reason to make a ton of money and try to salvage very very bad TUF ratings.
Moving TUF to Friday night didn't help it much more either. I've only watched ONE live episode and that's only because I was sick, otherwise I would have definitely rather gone out.
Thank you, I now know I am not the only sane person here. Glover's ground and pound was the best I have seen in the division since.. Jon Jones! JJ likes to pick his shots carefully with his ground and pound, it's very effective. Whereas Glover completely rips through and ignores the person's guard and just fucking destroys with nothing but brute force, I would love this match up so many times over Sonnen. All of the other LHW turned down short notice fights which is completely different than a fight many months away with a full training camp. quick question
so i saw someone earlier reference shields-hendo. that was actually the first strikeforce event i had seen, and the first time i had heard of jake shields. i remember after, and even during, that event, there was talk about how hated jake shields was and how this fight was booked basically with the intent of him losing. so what was the problem with him? why was he so hated?
His stand up is atrocious and his ground game is extremely boring, before entering the UFC he was known for submitting people, but most of his wins are very boring decisions. Anyway, for Strikeforce signing Hendo was a huge deal to them, and yeah basically they were looking forward for him to just completely smash and dethrone Shields. The commercials didn't even feature Jake Shields as Champion, only talked about Hendo coming to SF and taking the belt pretty much. LOL.
It was horrible, not only because Hendo actually almost did just that in a few seconds of the opening fight, but he didn't finish Shields and ended up getting FULLY MOUNTED for two or 3 rounds, it was a very dominant mount, Shields could not do much if any damage, but I would hate to see him in this position against Jones.
SF in all their infinite wisdom was banking on Hendo winning the fight and become champ due to the fact it was Shields last fight on contract and he made it no secret he was already in talks with the UFC.
Yeah the whole thing was very SF vs UFC. Hendo had just left the UFC because he wasn't getting the next title shot. At this same time Jake was becoming best buddies with Dana.
Throw in that Shields is boring as shit and Hendo was just coming off turning Bisping's head into mush, making him more popular than he'd ever been, and you've got a recipe for everybody betting on Hendo... However Hendo went into the fight with an injured spine of all things and looked like total garbage.
On a sidenote, that SF Nashville event was such a shit show lol. I remember being so pumped for every single fight, because on paper they were actually good. Hendo would make Shields faceplant, Gil would either pound Aoki into mush or get subbed in spectacular fashion, and Mousasi and Mo had never been in a boring fight in their entire careers. Surely nothing could go wrong... -.-
I only watched Hendo vs Shields and regret it as soon as Shields recovered from that face plant. Hey at least the Nashville "brawl" was born right after in the post fight interview, that was pretty hilarious.

UM FOLKS, SOMETIMES THESE THINGS HAPPEN IN MMA - Gus Johnson
Never once remember anything even remotely close to this happening.
I'll recap for you: Aoki buttscoots for the duration and Mo lays on top of Gegard throwing maybe 10 strikes throughout the entire fight.
Nick was in a brawl in an EliteXC fight too. I don't recall exactly what fight at this time. Bonus points, Nick fought Joe Riggs in the hospital after their fight.
i kinda liked the Gilbo-Aoki fight
never seen so much GnP thrown from outside a guard without ever actually passing it
