Lyota Machida is the best ever
Shogun finally met his match when he went all Danielsan on his ass.

This was from a couple weeks ago.. apparently someone changed it recently to say Decision (Fixed) under Method for tonite's fight.
I agree with the method for Rashad, beating Fedor by armbar is blasphemy though and I cannot support such a notion.
herbal submission over nick diaz is awesome
Eh nowhere near as bad as people are making out.
Turn the commentary off and look at the amount of counters to Shoguns face he was taking, as well as being crumpled twice and taking a big body knee that gave lyoto r1.
Yeah Lyoto had a bad night, and I thought on first watch that Shogun won 48-47, but christ you'd think this was as bad as the Paul Malignaggi boxing decision a few weeks back reading the mma forums.
Yeah I watched it like that, Machida still lost, badly. Might wanna check fightmetric brah:
Machida-Shogun
I checked fightmetric about 10 mins after the fight.
If the rounds where Lyoto crumpled Shogun were 2/3, then I'd give round 1 to Lyoto on the body knee, which also gives him the fight.
I agree judged as a fight Shogun won, but under the 10 point must system, no not really.
What I dont get is why everyone thinks leg kicks dont count as a strike. It obviously caused damage, which Machida admitted to in the post fight confrence. You could tell it took a lot of him. Shogun used them to inflict more damage then we have seen yet. The fight could have gone either way, and I personally blame it on both mens corners for telling them they we're up the whole fight, causing both fighters to not press the action and steal a round in a more defining way. Both men fought rounds 4 and 5 like they were trying to play it smart and not get knocked out or subbed so they would win the decision.
What was best was the body language Machida was showing @ the press conference, he seemed to be very hostile and upset.
He knew he lost and he's trying to defend himself but giving the run around on admitting he lost.
Note: When reading this, keep in mind the bias I have. I've read about this match online regarding Shogun dominating, Rogan and his comments, and things in general. I was also cheering for Lyoto in this bout.
I'm rewatching the Machida and Shogun bout, taking my time with it going through the rounds really slowly. Round 1 definitely went to Shogun, he was the aggressor, landed more strikes (and significant ones), while Lyoto hadn't done much other than get his timing.
10-9 Shogun
Round 2 in my books goes to Lyoto. It was a somewhat close round, but Lyoto dominated the standup for the first 2:30 minutes of the round, then slowed down until Shogun pins him to the fence with 40~ seconds to go. He lands some significant knees to the legs, but it was not enough to steal the round on my card. Something to note though, Rogan definitely biased my the first time around with this round. He mentions every time Shogun lands a strike, yet stays silent for most of the Lyoto counters (which were fairly huge).
10-9 Lyoto
(I have turned the sound off on my computer to watch without commentary)
The third round is an interesting one. Shogun's standup was just slightly better than Lyoto's in the beginning of the round, where they were landing equal shots, but Shogun was striking first... As the round went on, Shogun started to land non retaliated strikes to the body. The only offense Lyoto posed in this round was the flurry near then end, but no real significant damage was done, and in my mind it wasn't enough to steal the round.
10-9 Shogun
I am unsure as to why almost everyone gave Shogun round four. In my opinion, this round was the closest one yet (way closer than round 1), with Lyoto winning all but 1 exchange until there were 2 minutes left in the round. Shogun started to pick it up, beating Lyoto to the punch, and turning up his aggression. With that said, a very close round, one which I will barely give to Shogun.
10-9 Shogun
Round 5 was definitely all Shogun. This round seemed to be the culmination of his work, as Lyoto looked out of form, gassed, hurt and not like he has in the past. Shogun picked him apart at will, and did so in great fashion. He was brilliant with with his leg/body kicks, while only eating one major strike -- a knee, the entire round.
10-9 Shogun
My score would then have been 49-46 Shogun, as he beat the champ on his feet, against the cage and in overall octagon control. I can see a how a few judges might have mistakenly given Machida rounds 3 and 4, as they were fairly close... But in my mind not close enough to make that mistake across three scorecards.
One thing to note, though: Machida was definitely out of his normal karate form. Shogun was far more patient than Lyoto in most circumstances, almost like Lyoto was told to be more aggressive, and to attempt to finish the fight. He certainly did not look like his normal self. My prediction for their rematch is Lyoto becomes more patient, sticks to his less assertive style and wins a decision.
