I've been all about Oktoberfest-Marzen and pumpkin ales! Gotta run with the season and fall is my favorite! Spring is a close second only because you can fill up on irish reds.

Beer has incredibly complex flavor characteristics and it's hard to get at them if you're not used to the bitterness or the carbonation, and it will take too long/cost too much money to figure it out just drinking beer. With mixed drinks you can control both. I think the first alcohol I ever drank was a Rum and Coke. Then I graduated to Rum, Scotch and Coke. On my 21st birthday I was served Grape Soda with a shitton of Meyers, Seagrams and Vodka in it. I didn't black out but the fruitiness and volume got me used to alcohol and showed me where the Full meter on my tank sat. Then I discovered the Long Island Iced Tea.
