Just got back in from this. I saw it in Imax 3D. I pretty much loved every minute of it. Fuck all the hate, this is a fun ass movie. Anybody looking for something significantly deep out of a Disney movie where a guy is trying to find his father is going to walk out disappointed. It was okay for what it was, and pretty predictable. It was a "real" Imax theater, and not one of those fake converted theaters where they try and rip you off. The 3D felt.. I dunno tacked on at the least second, even though I know it wasn't. There wasn't much as far as depth perception goes aside from a few parts. I only paid 6 bucks for the ticket, so I can't complain.

I hadn't listened to the soundtrack beforehand, so I was in for a fucking treat. That shit was awesome. Daft Punk really outdid themselves with that.

    Ending wise...
    Spoiler: show
So let's see. Tron comes to his senses and his fate unknown, CLU and Kevin Flynn merge to become some kind of super being (theoretical), Sam and Quorra get to live happily ever after and have half digital/half human kids, and cure the human condition. I was pretty pleased with the ending, but I thought for a second that Quorra was the SD card around Sam's neck and not a real person. Then I realized this is a Disney movie and they'd have it no other way. It leaves it open for another sequel, but hopefully we won't have to wait another 30 years for it. Actually from what I read, the writers from this were already hired to write the 3rd one, and everyone has options to be in the sequel.

Wow... damn good movie, and hats off to Disney for finally making a ballsy movie like this after all these years. The original Tron was always known for having certain religious overtones in it's story, and this just takes it to the nth degree. I suspect we'll be seeing a lot of debate over this film over the next few weeks. Also, for those of us familiar with the original movie, there are a LOT of homages to the original.

The only reason that it had religious overtones was the fact that it had way too many star wars references. The Main character was a cross between "The Dude"(Big Lebowski) and fucking Obi Wan Kenobi

    Spoiler: show
Tron wasn't even present in that movie and the first time he appeared on the screen I was like that's Tron(and i was filled with raged). Wasn't even that hidden because it showed him being controlled. Not to mention he wasn't the main protagonist or main antagonist he was just a fucking lacky why would you name a movie over your lacky? Might as well name the next batman movie fucking Robin or something. Not to mention this just digresses from the main point, which is Tron is supposed to be the bad ass, not users. The son who comes in all of the sudden is a fucking badass kicking the shit out of people, which wasn't how the original movie is. Sure the main character was competent but in the original the programs or more particularly Tron were supposed to be the one that could do the crazy shit.

    Spoiler: show
Also the bar fight scene is probably the shittiest fight scene in the movie. Very short lived and all that happens is the main characters immediately get the shit kicked out of them. Sure I guess that makes sense if two people were up against the world, but cmon its a fucking movie I go to have seizure light fights and I was disappoint entirely through that fight.

Not to mention the moral of the story is if you don't allow your operating system to torrent, it'll be released for free anyway. And the entire plot was based on the fact that ISOs were magically created and they were awesome because they made torrenting easier.

edit: I will give it props and it was an awesome visual and audio orgasm though and the fact that they actually used suits rather than CGI made a big difference in terms of visual effects I would say

    edit 2:
    Spoiler: show
Last fact that pissed me off about the movie is that if "The dude" was a badass because of his key, why didn't he let his son copy his key? Or rather why didn't the main antagonist just mass duplicate the key or at least copy it to himself like he did with the son's? If the son had the abilities he had off the bat, they probably could have logically made a lot more progress since having another copy at this point posed no real risk. And back to the point on the main antagonist (clue or glue or something?) he didn't bother to copy it at all he just decided he was going to use it which is something someone seeking perfection would OBVIOUSLY want.

That was the largest issue I took with the movie. They went into great detail to explain how and why Flynn disappeared, all the progress he made creating the new grid and discovering the ISOs, how Clu took his program directive and turned it into a mandate for a power grab. But they didn't provide any reason at all why Tron turned against his directive to protect and fight for the users. I imagine the only possible explanation is that he saw Clu as a user since he is basically a program copy of a user, but still that makes him a program and by basic logic Tron would have been able to differentiate.

Well he did say that Clu could repurpose them which was what I assumed they did it wasn't really clear. Then you had to just make the assumption that he was undercontrol by the guy Clu killed because he failed to kill Flynn's son. And then you have to further assume that because he was dead Tron's bind was weakened and eventually broke. Lots of assumptions on the backstory of the character that the movie is named after :/

Movie was dull to me. The fight scenes were boring. The acting felt forced. The disc fight and light cycle scenes were also boring. Tron... yeah.

Movie felt like a bad Starwars. We had stormtroopers, a star destroyer, tie fighters, and the millennium falcon(not to mention luke in the back shooting them down "woo i got one!").

Good movie, gorgeous in IMAX, 3D added nothing.

Worth seeing in theaters because this is not worth a dvd purchase considering you won't see new things on a second viewing.

    Tron ending spoiler:

    Spoiler: show
    /format c:

    The end.

    On a real note:

    Spoiler: show

Tron in the memory pool or whatever floating to the bottom of the fucking ocean like its Aerith from VII? Was there anything after the credits?

Merging of a User with a copy? What happens? Divide by zero?

Also, as I've read on a few movie forums. Flynn technically didn't an hero, just a complete wipe of the data layer on the grid. Since he's a user he technically can't be removed in the process? I don't know.

Sam & Quorra making babies? Wat do.

What was Quorra & Zeus's relationship like? Is there any canon to this? Was Zeus an Iso also? Or were they complete opposites.

Allen still in the unknown about the true realm Sam's father is in. He seems to always have a suspicion though that it could be possible with current technology within the movie of the 80's and early 90's @ ENCOM.

When Clue enters Flynn's hideout, he finds two objects on the fireplace which look like hexagonal stars? I noticed during the early arena match Clue was holding two balls (touching) and rotating them in his hands. What significance is any of this? Do the star-like balls represent "bit" from the original movie? Little clueless here.

Dillinger's son is obviously a huge plot gap for the third movie. Not enough justice of him in Legacy imo (even though he looked like an emo douchebag/hipster).

Its obvious a third is in the making. I wish they ended the plot to an extent. I for one do not want to see this story end up like Pirates of the Carribean where Disney just milks the fuck out of the plot just because they can financially.

    Spoiler: show
    END OF LINE.

I answered that literally three posts above you because four posts above you the person asked the same question. But As I remember it was the retarded looking creature playing with the balls. And if you noticed when he moved the balls Tron would move accordingly in the battle with Sam. Though it's dumb that they drop the concept that he's controlled with those later on though.

Seen it today, was good. I will agree with others in that the 3D was meh. Only reason i watched in 3D was i wanted IMAX size.

Movie was overrated as fuck. The only thing that kept me awake were the Grid scenes and the awesomeness of Daft Punk. The story made little sense, and the majority of the fight scenes consisted of a bunch of homo's jumping around like fake ass power rangers.

I just got back from Tron. I liked the movie. The plot was a lot better than I was led to believe. Very much the Christian allegory and not very subtle about it. I really don't think that it was necessary to see it in 3D because it didn't really add much to the film. I would have been just as happy with a 2D version (plus I got a bit naseous during the disc fight).

There was a bit of uncanny valley going on during the bits with Clu. His face was just too smooth I think. I can't quite put my finger on it.

The girl in white with Zeus had a very hot bottom.

Clu's face was CG'ed. The start of the movie his face was CG'ed also, what really gave it away was when he talked. They tried to make him look really young.

I know. I just can't put my finger on why uncanny valley hit me so hard because it was a good job of CGI.

Reminded me of the CG done with the Beowulf movie.

It didn't get really obvious till they zoomed in towards the end anyway.

Awesome awesome awesome fucking movie. Loved every minute of it, and the music added so much depth to it.
Saw it in 2D, because well, fuck supporting this half assed 3D movement; I didnt see any scene worth 3D anyway.

Went in with my fond remberance of the first Tron, and just enjoyed the ride. Tron was never about the story anyway, it was about how badass they could show off their technical abilities; the great story the first one had was just an added bonus. The second was less of a stand alone, and filled in some of the gaps from the first movie, as well as elaborating on the rest. I wouldnt have had anything changed, the movie was perfect.

    Will be seeing it again.

Zeus made the bar fight scene. He was the attraction there, not the fight.

Overall I thought it was better than I expected it to be. I didn't really go in to see some oscar worthy movie. It was a fun little action flick.

You now notice that Zuse had a Google Chrome logo on his forehead throughout the movie. Explains the Google Chrome trailer beforehand.

I thought the movie was great. I was skeptical walking in, but I realized a bit into the movie that I was really enjoying it. The visuals, the sound, even the story. I never felt bored.

    Spoiler: show
When Dillinger's son was introduced at the beginning, I thought, "OH SHIT." I'm disappointed he didn't have a bigger role in the film, but Scun told me he read somewhere his cameo was speculated to be a set up for a third film. I like that actor, and I'm interested to see what they could do with his character.

Zuse was nuts. What a badass-- owns a nightclub with Daft Punk DJing, pimp cane, crazy attitude, too bad they blew him up. I'd like to hope he somehow made it out of there.

Grid was so god damn pretty.
