    I FIGHT FOR THE USERRRR

haters gona hate, movie fucking rocked. saw it in 3-d, got headache, was worth it

    but yea..

    Spoiler: show
Olivia Wilde is human now right? Isn't she supposed to change the world? What exactly can she do? If any of those programs got through, they'd be human right?

I suspect for a third movie that Tron and the grid will be uploaded onto the Internet where somehow someone will create havoc, probably Dillinger's son somehow. Kevin Flynn didn't have much of an Internet around to use in 1989. Sam and Quorra to the rescue? There, script done. Hollywood should hire me.

Saw this last night. It was good, I enjoyed the time overall. Music was fantastic. I'll spoiler all my specific comments since we're still inside the first week of release...Elvis, look inside for response to your question.

    Spoiler: show
Olivia Wilde's character just didn't seem right to me though, was like a lost little kid. It fits the idea of the ISOs but that doesn't gel with Wilde as an actress I think. Maybe I just was disappointed that I didn't get to see more of her being hot. The best scene was still the one on the couch at Flynn's place, which we've seen since the very beginning so there was no net gain for going to see the film itself in that regard >_>

I didn't like how most of the world felt plastic; it's like, yeah I know all this stuff has got to be polycarbonate, but let's not break suspension of disbelief by making it sound like polycarbonate when someone runs across or a lightcycle slams into it, k?

Also really didn't like the way they tried to transpose real world ideas onto the digital one; the recognizers having jet boosters seemed weird, as did the lightcycles having engines and exhaust. The whole thing seeming to be a free moving city didn't make a lot of sense contextually to a computer considering most of what was going on in the first movie could be loosely correlated to basic tenets of computing; MCP controlling all input/output access, rogue programs being chased down by the MCP's avatar, etc...this free flowing societal thing is more alternate reality than "this is what a computer would look like if personified". It's not strictly bad for it, but it's a departure from the original concept, almost to the point that this movie is doing nothing more than paying lip service to the original.

Sirens could have been far more interesting characters than they were. I'm disappointed about that. Also, Tron's "comeback" was incredibly anti-climactic.

Elvis- Quorra got through because she had Flynn's disc. Same reason CLU wanted it. Other programs wouldn't be able to do that normally; CLU simply had figured out a way to make that happen using Flynn's disc and the command ship. As to what she can do, forget it. That plot device was just there so she could be the twist.

    elvis and Nore

    Spoiler: show
@ elvis - we don't know for sure if she would become human if she passed through. In fact I would assume that she would not, just as the Users didn't turn into programs. This is seen when Flynn's son gets attacked by Tron earlier and he bleeds rather than become pixels like all the programs do when they die.

@ nore - I agree with you that the whole ISO thing was a plot device, however if they do actually make a sequel (Maybe they'll add a decent plot this time?) I think we'll see more of her "abilities" there. Most likely with some anti climatic "I HAVE TO SACRIFICE MY LIFE FOR THE GOOD OF THE PEOPLE AND THE PROGRAMS! And then Sam being like but don't do it I love you. . . NOOOOOOOOOOOO"

If anyone sees this through, ahem, means.
(Though really, it's well worth the ticket, go see it on a big screen)

Could someone give me a screenshot of
    Spoiler: show
The Go game Kevin Flynn and Quorra are in the middle of? It's right before they're looking at books, iirc

Much better than i had expected going in. Overall i enjoyed it, but..

    Spoiler: show
Like a few people already stated, Tron didn't have enough of a purpose like he did in the original. He may as well not have even been included in this movie. I would have enjoyed a side story with him involved to make things more complex and make what he did at the end mean more than just a "hooray" moment.

Oh and Olivia Wilde was fucking perfect. I'm glad they didn't ruin her part by making it into some sappy love story. I was cringing when i thought her and Sam were going to Hollywood it up and kiss towards the end.

    Also, here you go Cantih

Checking this out again tonight. Heard it didn't do as well as expected opening weekend. Makes me sad, though I still have my fingers crossed that it made enough to have Disney go forward with a third movie.

My synopsis of the movie is exactly what I expected it to be going in:

Shitty story, mediocre acting cheesy plot.

    Amazing special effects and visuals.

    Even better sound track.

Despite what I felt about the story and acting I had a lot of fun watching the movie and thought it was entertaining in just the right ways to make it a worthwhile watch. I don't think it overall was an amazing movie nor was it all that innovative but it was still fun.

But damn the soundtrack was bad-ass.

Am i the only one that didn't think the soundtrack was all that great, besides Journey playing on the jukebox of course.

Not once did i get goosebumps like i did for the Inception soundtrack.

I'm just not a fan of techno.

Loved this movie, I agree with the above poster about Olivia Wilde, she was perfect. Sound track was absolutely fantastic, the visuals were amazing and the action scenes were fun.
    Spoiler: show
I agree about Tron needing a bigger part, I felt disappointed he didn't do more. Especially after saying "I FIGHT FOR THE USERS!!"

Worst part about the movie was a combination of IMAX and 3D. I should have seen it normally in the IMAX, 3D fucking ruined everything for me. The glasses were shitty, most of the time things were blurry and I couldn't focus on anything normally. If you see this movie, do yourself a favour and don't see it in 3D. I'm never going to see a movie again in 3D, shitsux.

I have to agree. I think I will go back to see it again on a regular screen. I had problems with focusing in the IMAX 3D theatre as well.

I saw it in Real3D or whatever and it worked well. The movie wasn't zomgamazing for it, but it was definitely enhanced in some ways, primarily where the games were concerned.

IMAX 3D in particular has focusing issues, I'm not exactly sure why that is. Presumably because the screen is so large it's hard to get the field of depth right, I dunno.

I have to agree.. I don't care for IMAX 3D over regular Imax. I wear glasses to begin with so it makes it even harder. Normal theaters 3D with glasses seems to be fine for me though, just a little uncomfortable wearing 2 pairs.

Anyway, As a fan of daft punk, techno, and epic orchestral music.. I loved the soundtrack. I was listening to the album while waiting to see the movie.

I'm not a fan of techno. I listen to mostly folk music these days in fact, but I love this soundtrack. It sounds great in my car.

Yeah I saw it in real3D and it was fine. 3D was used well and wasn't gimmicky. Ehh I wasn't impressed with the movie. I hesitate to say it was bad, because I definitely enjoyed myself, but it felt like a guilty pleasure.

    Spoiler: show
I kinda figured it would end up with a program in the real world, and I'm glad they didn't turn this into a love story (despite obvious undertones). Even though this was the obvious route, I still think it was probably the best direction to take the movie, and that's why I gotta say that I liked it.

I finally caught the movie and I was overall a little disappointed. I was so pumped from the initial previews and was left wanting something better after seeing it. In the boardroom meeting at the start I was like, woah! That's Cillian Murphy! and that was it lol. I really hope if they make another movie he will be in it, he's such a great actor. Plus a real person is a better villain than a shitty CGI plastic looking Jeff Bridges. I nominate CLU for worst villain of the year.
