    Possible Virus on wiki

I was browsing wiki a few minutes ago and a bunch of shit popped up (probably from one of the advertisements) with the "your computer may have a virus" spyware routine. I imagine a keylogger would be much more subtle, not sure if it's related to FF in any way. Either way, make sure you noscript if you browse that site.

I wasn't using noscript when I visited the site (I had it turned off for something, forgot to turn it back on.) Any recommendations?

    Otherwiki or BG?

If you are concerned, do a full deep scan of whatever software you use. Process Explorer procexp.exe by sysinternals if you are familiar with your standard background applications. It shows you what is running and you can specify charts and graphs for various system monitoring settings but don't shut anything off that you do not know about first. I aggro anything new that shows up on my system so it's pretty easy to tell when something shows up but, if you are not familiar, just highlight and copy the name of any curious applications running in process explorer and do a google info on what they are. After cross referencing a few different sites on a file name definition, you can guess it is accurate. Don't fall for any of the file name info sites click "this for free computer scan" bullshit buttons though. Also Firefox and Noscript had an update yesterday, check it.

If it was what I think it was (With the fake scanner) then yeah I'd do what Mistress said and run a scan to see if anything got installed on your computer w/o your knowledge.

I had this happen to me a few days ago. It was just your standard "Do you want to Download a Free Virus Scan?" pop-up. I was pretty shocked too, so I ran a Malwarebytes Scan (Full) and a Virus Scan through Avast, both found nothing.

I reported this to the wikia crew yesterday morning. If people are having this issue we need to report it to them so they can get it sorted out.

    I don't have 10 posts yet on BG so i can't post a link... /facepalm -.-

But if you go to the ffxiclopedia forums, and go to the english wiki support forum i made a post, if you have information to help them remove the offending Ad please post and let them know. If people don't report it they won't be able to fix it.

That's something to PM Sonomaa or Ragns about right away. Did you tell them?

EDIT: Unless you're talking about fraudwiki, which wouldn't really surprise me. But if you're gonna say something like that, say otherwiki or whatever, don't just call it "wiki" because here that means bgwiki.

Ill do a full check on recently edited stuff on bgwiki just in case, but we usually watch the recently edited stuff pretty closely, so I think were in the clear

the only thing weve had recently is some randomly edited porn bots that everybody gets lol

I don't use Noscript, though i'm using Avast, Zonealarm. And never encountered a problem like that; i visit BG, KI, FFXIAH and wiki very often. @.@

I...highly, highly recommend it. Really. Avast is good but it ain't gonna catch everything, and ZoneAlarm is... mainly a firewall for one, which doesn't really help against viruses. If everyone used firefox/noscript/adblock/flashblock there would be very few complaints about viruses from surfing the interwebs. It takes like half a minute to install any of that stuff so there's no excuse D:

What would be the purpose of this? noscript handles flash too.

There are some sites that I'll allow scripts from, but want to block flash until if/when I want to watch it. If I allow other scripts from the site, flashblock puts an icon in the place of the flash content so I can choose to watch it or not. Like POL main site. I allow scripts from that site, but have flash blocked so I don't have to load all that extra stuff on my rather slow connection.

    ^

There are some really fucking obnoxious flash objects on some sites that I need scripts enabled for. There might be a setting or something to configure it how you want (i haven't checked), but there's no harm in having them both anyway and it does what I want it to do.

To my knowledge, 99.9% says you can use them separately (one without the other just fine). Since Adblock Plus (Flash related content/etc.) are predefined lists set by you. Its really no more secure than NoScript Flashblock.

As to why people use them in conjunction? I guess as a double-layer of security. In case (example few postsabove) the person has NoScript disabled by accident on a page thus leaving them vulnerable to flash-based ads. It leaves them with a second chance for the ads to not be displayed (unless allowed to) to protect themselves.

Someone probably could clarify it further, but I'm pretty sure that is it in a nutshell.
