I hope I can get used to it. It's just always made me feel so much more limited.
But with the new UI and the questing system being pretty much the same as other MMOs, I wonder what they're planning on doing to make this one unique. The new armory system or w/e it's called will only carry them so far, as people will still pick their favorite class like in other MMOs.
EDIT: @Gokulo
Yeah, I've heard plenty of people complain about the FFXI UI. But for the most part those people were just plain bad.
I was really hoping XIV would be similar to spellcast in XI. Spellcast and windower macros give so much freedom in XI, it's awesome. But now it's sounding like they want to phase out things like, say, changing gear to use a weaponskill in XI (or maybe even having an oh shit set). I don't really know how other MMOs handle that (can you change gear, use a skill, then change back? do people even bother? lol) but it was one aspect I really liked about XI :/
that action bar wont even matter, u can probably disable it. I don't know about you guys but I had all my macros memorized in ffxi. Unless u plan on clicking them O.o;;?
Made you feel limited??? You have access to all the 1234+ buttons on top of macros (ctrl1234+, alt1234+ which I highly doubt SE would leave out of the game considering this sort of system is quite the norm for games these days; As stated Aion/WoW incorporate macros). If you think that you won't be able to play FFXIV because you have to hit 1 to attack instead of pulling up a menu and hitting "attack", you should just stop playing MMOs cuz hotkeys/macros are considered standard now.
(and are very easy to use)
blah blah blah generic ui argument for/against blah blah blah
can that argument be over now and we move on?
Not having macros would be a step down. A loss of customization. However, if gear needn't be switched then it is not much of a loss.
There really isn't a reason to hate on "skill bars." If I had to complain, I don't like they are visible.
Who said anything about pulling up the menu to attack? lol
In other MMOs can you put things other than skills on your skill bar? Most I've seen have either a skill or 1 piece of gear. I like having a full gear swap on one macro, tyvm.
If I don't use something often (say, a ~na when I'm on RDM) I won't have it macro'd. If a situation comes up where I need that spell I can type it; it takes me almost no time at all.
Also in XI you could macro text or anything you could type to a macro. Useful for stun rotations, or when I'm duoing with my friend's RDM to know when one of us used bind/grav/bio/poison/etc.
That's what I meant by feeling limited in other games.
Also, if you're just talking sheer number of macros, you've got 20 macro books with I think 200 macros each <.<; and even more if you use windower key binds.
EDIT: Also, what BRP said. Loss of customization. Though imo not needing gear swaps is also a step down :/
isn't a macro bar exactly the same as the action bar, only difference is that you have to push two buttons instead of one?
I really don't see why all the fuzz, FFXI's interface sucked because it wasn't intuitive. It wasn't user friendly and required you to read a fricking manual to start to use it.
Easier doesn't necessarily mean cheaper or gayer. Easier sometimes means it was designed better and to be used intuitively.
Ok, enough with the arguing (before the 2nd largest thread ends up like the 1st). I'll keep my thoughts to myself next time.
How bout them boats huh? Personal customizable boats for sea travel?
Um in WoW you can have an entire macro on 1 hotkey... I put my entire Hunter shot rotation on one macro and would spam that the entire raid -> top DPS. I also had my PVP and PVE gear sets on hot keys.
I wonder though... Does this mean keyboard will be more accessible/better than using a PS3 controller? :O
If you are agreeing with me, you have to say you don't mind skill bars either.
EDIT: This has fuck all to do with WoW by the way. Why is it such a disclaimer must be said about everything?
You have to keep in mind that most of the people on this forum, or any FFXI forum, play FFXI instead of WoW or whatever other MMO for their own reasons.
I think FFXI's UI is a lot more Controller/Console gamer friendly which is why it has so many players who have never played an MMO before(because they don't like UIs designed for/around a PC user).
Oh and for the record: Standard != Good. As far as "very easy to use"...that's your opinion.
