The combat seems to be alot like Age of Conan where you press a button/key to dish out a regular attack.
But once you have that end all piece of gear, why do you play now? What is your goal? I think they thing that keeps people in FF over the long haul IS the next big item, notice how SE did a small group of end all gears with sky, then slowly added better and better pieces till what we have now? It keeps us playing, if gear ended at sky who of us would still be playing?FFXI gear swapping is SE creating a time sink the optimizers eat right up and the niche lengths some go to is, for the lack of a better word, sad. I'm not saying you guys can't have these "roles" the situational gear is used for. I'm just saying I want it all on one strongly designed piece per slot instead of many creating the graphical nightmare that is blinking
Adding new gear and changing how a job is/can be played keeps the game fresh, people who think X- job is always a tank/DD/nuke/healer are mistaken, the gear/player makes the job what SE allows them to, and I really believe people at SE sorta enjoy seeing new things that can be done with their system.
Attaining the items IS the game, from what I see here everyone wants to take away the 2 things you play an MMO for, leveling and gear. Without either of those, what are you doing?
You can hang out on a forum, you can IM with messenger, you play an MMO to accomplish something with other people. The one thing they need to fix is how much you accomplish vs how long it takes to do it. But imo, FFXI was balanced enough, the easier it is to get something, the more jackasses have it.
Who would do quests for hours, craft, mine, XP, w/e... if you get nothing for it except once piece of junk gear that everyone else has. While yes, a 70 item RDM gearset is a pain in the ass to get, but how many other people have the same or better setup than yours? And how long did it take for more than one person to have that setup?
I think the overall gear setups is what makes FFXI a great game, but that is prolly just because I am used to it, I would bet w/e SE comes up with for XIV will kick ass. It is SE afterall! 18+ FF genre games and still kicking!
I'll bet that we won't be swapping gear for every spell, enmity move, ability and weaponskill but i'd still like to be able to have macros that let me switch up every armor slot.![]()
UI looks badass, easier to see what is going on than XI.
They've said battles will be real time but like Kurokikaze has said, the demo players may not know how to play so it seems slow.
Is there a video of the archer shooting or the mage casting magic? All the videos showed the people playing those characters just running around and the melee character fighting.. albeit slowly.
They should've done a proper demonstration of game mechanics and general "how to" before they allowed the masses to play the game."
Theres one of an archer shooting arrows but I can't find it anymore. Try GameVideos.com. All the ones that I've seen with the Lalafell mage made it seem like spell casting was actually broken/bugged.
Final Fantasy XIV makes its gameplay debut at GamesCom
Found it for you, I remembered seeing it on the site earlier.
It was shot on a cellphone but it is actually good quality for a phone.
Is it that one? That one was posted awhile ago and I updated it on the first post but I watched again and I didn't see any arrows.
A more insanely ridiculous and tactless, yet completely true statement has never been made.
I think my biggest hope for FXIV is that they keep the grouping/social aspects intact. I'm hoping since all the players in the demo were in parties together and what not that they're not moving to far away from that. For instance, and again... hate to bring up WoW... but since that's the only other MMO i've played that's what I have to compare it too. You played 1-80 completely alone without ever actually needing to speak to another PC. Leveling a character might as well have been an offline activity. Then you hit 80 and you're suddenly expected to make friends/join raiding guilds. If I hadn't started that game w/ friends from XI already there... I'd have quit in a matter of days... if not hours. LFPing was god awful in XI sometimes (loldrg/pup and melee DD in general) but at least you occasionally made a friend, or an enemy to bitch to your friends about lol.
I'd comment on some of the other things that were said earlier but I really just don't want to keep feeding fuel to the moron fire at this point.
Yeah. Found it: Final Fantasy XIV Online Video Game, GC 09: Range Gameplay (Cam) HD | Game Trailers & Videos | GameTrailers.com

Maybe I missed it buried somewhere, but do we know what this is yet?

Seems to be some kind of action queue. It changes around alot, and usually corresponds to the next ability being used.. but how does it work? Is it something activated, then executed automatically during your next swing... or more of a queue+confirm thing? Or am I just way off ;x Zyuu? Bercus?
Is that supposed to be Red Lotus? Looks like a time bar/cast bar of some sort.
After reexamining the video it seems like that just tells you what ability you're hovering over. Hot key is over Bogenattacke (Bow attack?) and then it switches to Repetierschuss when whoever was playing it decided to use that. Maybe it'll serve as a cast bar for actual spells.
