Working on the interview I just had with Hiromichi Tanaka at #Gamescom about #FFXIV

Only thing interesting is "change job by switching weapon BETWEEN fight"
I suppose QotsaM will make a full translation.
i thought the weapon job system is too limiting to have a pup/bst in there
but i hope not..
Did anyone else find this to be exciting news?
" the main frame of the game is announced as even more epic than its predecessor, with elements such as voice recorded for most of the NPCs in the world Eorza to make more interactive quests and trade."
man, who asked those questions?no idea of the game... bah
-ok, no online-shop planned so far (ingame-online shop for equip or money like those korean free to play MMos)
-armoury system: no comment
only that you can change job during battle by equip change
-more occasional gamers blabla
-of course there will be difficult mobs where you need a lot of players. something about "toujours des monstres"... like intensive mobs anytime/always.
-something about the communication on the SE premiere site with a calandar system (events)
meh..
edit: damn. i never think of google. well, at least i tried to translate. cookie +1
Looks like there won't be any auto-attacking. I suspect we'll be using different directional swings for regular attacks like the Roegadyn on the boat. Speaking of the Roegadyn fighting on the boat he actually picked the monster up with the Great Axe but i didn't see anything like that in the gameplay videos.
Little sum-up:
- FFXIV is 8 years old project from FFXI experience
- Story and gameplay will be totally different from FFXI
- Story promised to be more epic than FFXI
- Recorded voices for NPC for a better interaction and immersion
- Game is aimed for neophytes and fans
- They're hesitant to port it on 360 because of Xbox Live (i.e. PSN = $ and XL = points)
- Playing with pad will be featured of course and it will be intuitive
- How does Amoury System work? They can't reveal anything for now but they said you can change your job as much as you want between fights by changing equipment (like FFXI's automatons?)
- Game will be based on one main quest said to be very difficult and come with casual quests
- It won't be about powered characters, PT will be about abilities and what you can bring in your PT: veteran players and occasional players will be able to group together
- There'll still be intense fights against monsters
- Concerning communication: it was the will of the team who wished to do the opposite of FFXI's strategy: getting feedbacks and comments from the beginning
- Linkshell system overhaul to make PTs and online tools to help players by gathering informations of the social life of FFXIV
- Premiere Sites system will be extended with events' calendar

Considering that Luciferu made a quite good summary, I'm considering wether or not the translation is worth it, but as expected, there are not really specific infos.
Was hoping to gleam some more details from the PS3 footage IGN has, but its all being played with keyboard.
The reason FFXI used sort of chat window it did (I assume), is because things have to be larger when you're playing on a TV that's across the room, instead of a monitor thats 18 inches away. For people concerned about the chat window in XIV: we already know the UI is customizable. I'd would have to imagine this includes resizing the chat window to something more along the lines of XI.
Also for those concerned with the skill bar a few pages back, unless XIV requires a keyboard for more than just chat on PS3, that skill bar is going to have to be accessible via a controller. It will probably function just like the macro bar did in XI, if you're using a controller (Shoulder buttons + Dpad + Confirm Button). It is worth noting, however, that in another PS3 vid from IGN, you can clearly see numbers on the skill bar icons, denoting the number to press on your keyboard to use the commands. While this suggests a keyboard is required for play on PS3, I would be more inclined to believe that this is just indicative of the early stage of development, with the PS3 version's UI not having been completed yet.
Also it's already been talked about, but in the same IGN vid that the 2nd pic comes from, the TP bar bounces around quite a bit. At 0:05 he uses Red Lotus (red fire attack), which drops his TP from 3,000 to 2,500. At 0:20, the green AoE WS (Rundumhieb, google translates "Rundum" as "round", "hieb" as "stroke")drops it from 2,512 to 1,002. Each hit he takes seems to give 2 TP. At 0:26 he raises his sword in front of him ("Du fangst ab Schutzschild zu wirken" in the chat log, google translate says:"You starting to act as shield"), at 0:29 his TP drops to 510 (presumably from the defensive move). Finally at 0:35 his TP rises from 512 to 2,500 when he uses Red Lotus , which kills the puk. It is probably a bug that Red Lotus seems to put you at 2,500 TP regardless of when you use it, but it does seem clear that different moves (including JA) use TP. It seems that non-mage jobs might perform like DNC this time around.
Oh, also there are 2 icons before the "1 Icon" (far left of skill bar). They are hard to make out, but the first looks like an orange sword to me, and the second looks like headphones (doubt this is accurate). There are 3 more icons on the far right, which looks like an item bag (inventory, although it looks just like the bazaar icon from XI), a chat balloon, and what I assume to be a Linkpearl.
They were playing on PC's, not ps3's. If you look at one of the screenshots on ffxicore, on one of the distant computers u can see the windows XP task bar at the bottom of the screen, as if someone alt tabbed or is playing in a windowed mode. Which also confirms that we wont need a windower for the pc version.
welcome to 4 pages ago :D
nah, you saw that right
the very first one is a sword, the second a coloured circle. like an element-rotationOh, also there are 2 icons before the "1 Icon" (far left of skill bar).
