Interview was very good and detailed! I wasn't expecting voiceovers or no zoning. Weather effects look amazing, yay for no more pixels in the sky

I definitely like how they are focusing on detail rather than simply scope in terms of the world.
In some of the videos, you see the grass billowing in the wind and the terrain is very detailed. It's also very hilly and looks genuinely organic (as much as a game can be I mean).
I'm glad it's seamless. I understand that's a standard too - it's just great that FF will have it now. The art direction in FFXI and now FFXIV was better than most MMOs imo (and better than WoW). So when you combine updated graphics and effects with a sleek/realistic art direction = win.
Towards the end in FF11, it was just about the ritual of acquiring more items for me... You didn't take in the scenery or anything or enjoy the game world. That actually hit me back in early 2005 but I kept playing anyways.
I hope this game allows you to just do w/e and not have to put so much time in. Taking in the scenery and just questing w/ friends seems more enjoyable now that the 'look' of the game is top-notch accentuated by no zoning and a generally more casual atmosphere.
I agree 100% with Elvis's point about stopping to smell the roses, so to speak. The scenery is just gorgeous in this game. The color palette and lighting effects, hell, that weather was awesome.
I remember back in the day, first zoning into Ronfaure, listening to the music, the wind blowing through the trees, the game really pulled me in. FFXIV has taken exponential leaps and bounds above what FFXI did in this aspect, I can't wait!
EDIT:
Hurry the eff up and post it! WTF, F5ing like a mofo on ffxivcore.com!!!!!11111111111111Originally Posted by Zyuu

But in seriousness, MOAR UPDATES.
I think S/E will kick the PS3 ass with this MMORPG.System Requirements?
We're not done with analyzing this just yet, but it's going to be fairly high since FFXIV is going to be on HD on Playstation 3.
I'm hoping for a materia type system similar to FF7. The weapons and armor will basically be throw aways that are only for looks and slot numbers. The materia or augments will be the valuable pieces that can be replaced and customized.

YEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!In the alpha I wasn't able to jump, will there be jumping in FFXIV? And swimming? Maybe even climbing?
Its going to be the same as in FFXI. So currently there will be no jumping. If its necessary we might add swimming and climbing in the future.
Yummy, tasty interview!
I don't mind weapons degradation so much - if they can be fixed by crafters. I think that's a great system to keep crafting "worthwhile", as opposed to having to pay an NPC. Or even both - if you can't find a crafter you can take your stuff to an NPC.
Anxiously awaiting more info :3

Although there's some parts of the game that have me pretty 'meh', other parts have me extremely stoked. For one, the world is utterly beautiful so far, and its just an Alpha phase. I'm pretty big on aesthetics, so something like that is awesome for me. I love being able to get a new piece of gear and LOOK at it on your character, so the realism I love- I played WoW and other MMO's for a while, but the 'realism' factor of FFXI was huge for me, and I'm glad its back and better than ever here.
The lightning bolt in that video almost made me shit my pants... though I can't help but feel like gametrailer's comment 'Realistic weather is what makes MMOs worth playing--or so you might think.' was intended as tongue-in-cheek sarcasm. Shit like that DOES make a game for me, sod off.
thank you all for this information, its really providing me with a better idea of how the basic outline of this game is suposed to work.
However, I am sorry for being confused, as almost every pic and link is blocked by my work PC, but is it only the guildleve quests that are instanced? Or is every time you wlk out side instanced like in Guildwars? Just not sure how it works at this moment in the games development.
I do have another question, lets say you have a fighter type job. can you use every ability available to that class? Or are you limited to the number of hot keys(prolly cant answer that yet)? And, outside of weapons, can you change gear in mid fight?
Im so interested in this game LOL. cant wait, thank you all for the information you are gleeming out of this event.
Should be interesting what the PC specs will turn out to be. Well I'll be starting out on the PS3 anyway. Maybe they will allow people to make custom UIs.
hm how is that again?
they once said there are no exp in this system but in the interview they talk about exp-loss?
or did i get something wrong?
willriker: the guildleve quests are instances. some others as well, and instance-raids. the world is open like in ff11 of course
One new thing that I have found is an interview here.
http://www.famitsu.com/game/news/1226816_1124.html
It's a Famitsu interview at Gamescon and a translation is posted at Endless Journey's FFXIV blog that has not been mentioned that I will post below
・At this moment, 40-50% completion.
・The graphic quality will be tune up even more. You can see each tree very clearly even they are very far away.
・macro feature will be added.
・UI layout can be movable by players themselves.
・The smile Icon is emote function.
・Those icons below the screen are called action command.
・You can set abilities that you had on those action command.
・Once you select the command, it will show on one of the 2 gauge in the middle of your screen. Each gauge represent left and right hand.
For example, your left hand equipped with a shield, so those shield related command will be appeared on the left hand gauge.
・When the action gauge reached, the command that you set, will be cast.
・There will be a power gauge too, the more it gains, the higher your accuracy and skill power will be.
・TP gauge will effect what kind of skill you can cast too. So gaining TP will be also very important during battle.
・TP will be gained by getting hit, or hit the monster.
・The action command will be change depends on your weapon. If you put on rod or staff , it will be magic related action.
・Action command will only have 10 slots. You are able to customize those.
・The bag mark icon is item bag.
・Players are not be allow to use emote during battle.
・3 kind of camera style : 3 person view, should view, and first person view.
・Players are able to pull up their weapon even not in engage mode.
・Quest mob location will be show on your map.
・Those puks wont be appear before you finished the dodo.
・There will be a development version before beta test. The image will be like a focus group thing.
The credit for the translation goes to Maruchiru on Zam tho I cannot find the thread on there
Edit* there may be some translations omitted so if anyone could translate word for word plz do
Edit* found source on Zam - http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/forum.htm...4&num=4&page=1
Update: SE confirms that characters in their upcomming MMO, FFXIV, will have the capability to jump.Update 9: you cant jump yet, but they are thinking of adding it, graphics are like oblivion basically from what I could tell. Images are being processed
In other news: DRG's revolt...
I say we burn baby wyverns...Its going to be the same as in FFXI. So currently there will be no jumping.
Meeeh, that means I cant afk while attacking.FFXI, the "attack" was adopted OTOATAKKUSHISUTEMU KURI出SU attack automatically when you select this command, you need to select FFXIV for each command. Since it may change by the combination of techniques to invoke commands on a strategic combination or if it will be important.
