Why is it that in every vid I see the Lalafell person just doesn't do anything! D:
Need some vids of people who know how to play MMOs lol or people spamming different keyboard combinations to open a hidden menu or something.

One of the things I'm hoping they'll let us do with the class system is to mix skills between classes after we've mastered them to an extent. I'd love to be able to recreate a Paladin if possible but it's all up in the air depending on how easy it is to switch between jobs.

The lack of Mithqo'te is making me a sad panda, but the rest of the info is great. I would love to see character art of all the facial types for all of the races.

Someone pulled up a map in one of the videos, haven't seen it posted yet.

I like it, but it isn't a very detailed map but it does show something!

Feature on the right makes me think of a hamster.

It looks like the key to your success in a mission is going to be how you mix and match abilities. So you will be able to create something like a Paladin, or at least something a lot better than a WAR/WHM ghetto Paladin, by combining sword, shield, and white magic skills with other stats. In the boss fights in the Crags for CoP it would be nice if the RDM could drop the debuffs, which are not very effective in those fights, for something giving additional HP or MP.

DRKs in XI have the Absorb spells that are specific to them, so it will be interesting if certain combinations of abilities give you access to unique abilities resembling some of the job-specific abilities in XI.

I'm always amused by the focus on whether you can or can't jump. It's always the first thing to be pointed out by wow players as to why their game is better, and always pointed out by FFXI players as one of the things that sucks about wow. I like both games, so I'm happy to sit on the fence.

But really, from a practical point of view, the jumping mechanic adds NOTHING to the gameplay of wow. It is purely a flavour mechanic. No raid boss has ever required jumping that I can recall.

It is an easy target for adding flavour though - it gives players an illusion of freedom that is hard to replicate. It adds a third dimension without breaking the game too much. On the flip side, it does mean people bunny hop around like morons - and in FFXI, it actually WOULD be game breaking, as it would provide some context as to why you cant jump over a six inch ledge, but have no problem falling down 50 metre holes and landing on your feet.

I agree, they did a great job w/the motion capture and they all moved very fluid like. Can't wait to get a HD view of the races. Also impressed they are allowing a degree of customization this time around, though I doubt we will get a "slider" like other newer mmo's use.

I can care less if you can jump / swim. It's always a "fun" thing to do, but it's very minimally implemented into fight mechanics in any mmo (yes wow does take "some" advantage of it). We all should be glad you can't jump lol, cause you know SE would make every major fight / encounter require extensive use of jumping and directions at w/you do, ect... or by having mobs throw stuff at you that you can only avoid by jumping and then there would be different speeds at w/NM's throw stuff and it all varries. haha

Thaddius, jumping from stallag and fugen's platforms to his. Jumping back on to the platform for Lurker. Jumping to maneuver around as a tank to reposition a mob. Jumping up terrian to place yourself above an AoE's line of sight or effect. All sorts of instances its used in. Oh, and one of the best ones for the mage class, Jumping to increase the AoE range of your spells like arcane explosion or frost nova.

Shut up. Shut up. Shut the fuck up. If the game isn't designed with it in mind jumping is useless. If there is an obstacle they don't want you to get over you won't no matter if you can jump.

    Shut up about jumping.

Also, after the snake boss in Gundarak, jumping off the side of the path down into the lake and swimming to the other side to avoid fighting the mobs patrolling the path.

I was just pointing out where they were wrong. I've played both WoW and FFXI. Either way, jumping adds unique experience and allows players to be tested with more physical control of their character during PvP and encounters. I don't care either way.

Tired of that melee chasing you? Jump off the cliff and blink to the ground, or take the chance that they follow you and die trying. Tired of getting caught by AoE in an encounter, and know that being up a level will cause it to do nothing? Jump up on that rock and enjoy giving your healers more mana to work with. That's unique to WoW's style of play.

FFXI was a different beast, and required you to think more about choice in spellcasting/gear/execution/timing than WoW does. But then again, you aren't regularly downing HNM's/Limbus/Sky/Sea with more than 15 people on a regular basis, and you aren't dealing with as many mobs as WoW, which allows for that type of gameplay to prevail. That's what made FFXI different from WoW. And for a time, it was a good thing.

    NERDRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGE.

He was just responding to the person that said jumping in WoW has never been in any encounter and has never been useful.
