I think that is pretty cool. It will probably take an adjustment, for sure, though. Tanaka had said, for example, if you have a sword and shield, when you use your sword move, your left hand "power meter" or w/e meter it is starts to fill up to do the action. When he used ShieldSomething, his right hand bar started fill up.
But what if you are dual wielding weapons? How does the game know which hand to use? Would it always default to mainhand, both hands, can you macro mainhand vs. offhand?

Obviously whether or not this matters is based on how the game works, which we don't really know yet, but sounds pretty interesting.

Lol, god, I hated that place so much. Well, at least worse comes to worse if you're that bad of a day or that frustrated, you can always POS hack your way to victory.

I did several times for the RR3 100% mp/hp, 300%tp feather. It is how I earned my first ban. XD

The bar is separated into 2 parts, and it appears one is for left hand and the other for right hand - so with dual wielding you would need to have an ability on both sides to use with both weapons. Wild guess~

It's amusing as shit when people do that in WoW, or editing out the terrain to get out of the starting gates in maps to precapture shit. I still remember climbing that piece of trash for ENM/CoP. It was so funny watching my buddies fall and me running up flawlessly the first time.

I'm definitely going to be trying FFXIV for at least a few months because of the changes they've made thus far. Right now, I'm hoping they stray away from "World" content and its more along the lines of instanced content, hopefully with better tuned requirements or better lockout timers.

kawfee, chill out... they're not going to answer anything horribly in depth so that's just a wasted question as well. At least now they said "no there is no jumping at this point" there done k? good.

Some posts are really funny, like "There's no SAM? damnit, i'm so not gonna play it" then, some posts later and same persons "lololol it's ffxi-2, EVERYTHING is the SAME!"

._.; quit with this bs already.

I think there will be a default so that you can set it up with the best weapon based on knowing what the default will be. Like some of the effects of gear in the current game will only work on main side if stacking during dual wield, so you put the weapon with the goodies on that hand. I say this not having used any of these special weapons, just reading. I am sure some skilled player here can put it into words better than me. /halp :D

I also liked that while things were new and stream-lined, I still felt like I was in a familiar game environment, even watching a vid of it. The character actions and mob attacks felt familiar but still different. This is so much alternate reality ffxi/The butterfly effect to me so far.

In this video around :15, I take it that this is the shoulder view? I've read in the various interviews that there will be three different viewpoints.
    -3rd Person
    -Shoulder
    -1st Person

Overall, if it is the shoulder view, I'm fairly pleased. I like that you don't have the character dead set in the middle of the screen.

Tanaka: The auto attack system was adapted from FFXI to FFXIV, but also now you need to select each skill that you want to attack with. This will give way for a more customized selection of techniques and attacks for a more personalized combination of attacks for players.
EDIT: In reading that, i don't understand if that means it will keep attacking with the same skill automatically, or if you literally have to push a button every single time you want to attack.

You have to queue up your next ability. Meaning yes you have to hit a button every time, or maybe if you leave it that ability will be recast.

Sounds like the later, but it will be more like ATB. A gauge will fill up and depending on when you initiate the ability/attack on the guage will determine its strength/accuracy etc. So there is a bit of waiting like the ATB but more strategic in just when you perform the ability. And than you have TP generation in this game being similar to FFXI and all of a sudden just how quick you perform the attack actually has some relevenace on strategy and playing style.

(Speculation time) I was thinking Quick but really weak attacks = tp generation quicker, but on harder mobs you will miss more unless its a precise attack and you might generate tp less on said attack. Thus how you attack and on what mob and skill you have goes into the calculation. And also with the screens showing that orientation with the enemy also has an affect... it will be MUCH more strategic than FFXI where it was auto-attack and occasionally use a skill or tp and lining up was reserved to just dodging AOE attacks, cover for PLDs, and abilities like sneak attack and trick attack etc. If that is how the system works, it should open up for some really neat variations on playing style and the boss fights actually being more strategic than just staying alive and getting the best gear possible to accomplish said task.

Someone that was there playing the game can hopefully chime in on the wait time for slicing abilities which would be welcome for clarification
