You know.. thats an ALPHA build of a game... alot can change.. like improved graphics more detail etc by time its final.... thats not bad for an alpha that probably has one small little area or 2 done![]()
the purpose of the texture is to look nice but also create an illusion of 3-D surface (the rocks/grass/etc.). In the FF14 screenshots, I'd say they succeeded. It's only an alpha as well. It looks amazing.
Only thing I hate about screenshots like this is they they are most likely enhanced with a lot of stuff. I want to see what it will looks like on my pc with maxed setting, not what you can do running the game in crazy resolution and minimizing it, then adding some blur or whatever.
That said, the enviroment still look gorgeous. It will be pretty fun to explore. Too bad there won't be any jump function....probably mean we will never fly above zone and see a different perspective.
Wow, I'm clearly behind on pining for this game with the rest of you, those screens up there have made me as interested as I need to be (not that I needed any reason to buy the game anyway besides that I want a new MMO that's still FF)
Also wtf people in page whatever the fuck thinking RotZ/CoP was done by everyone because of items
That's always a possibilty, but even then, it would still be limited to a few "rails". I hate not being able to see every corner of the world.
Heck, the first thing I did when i got my hand on pos.exe back then was climb on top of a crag and set the draw distance to the max, then I jumped down Blueblade fell in Lufaise meadow, and climbed nearly every unclimbable tower/building/mountain. Some of the view you get when you fly high above the area were awesome...and it's seriously a shame that FFXI mechanics don't allow you to see it normally.
I'd like a system where you can't control where you're flying, but you fly over players heads, not in a different zone. Also, a monorail or subway system would be hot in my opinion. I don't like seeing people flying around all over the place... it's like idiots jumping. They could limit the spaces where you can manually fly.
I don't think its been confirmed that this is ff14 but it probably is an extremely early version. At 28seconds you can see an airship/balloon thing.

I did the same exact thing, I tried to think of a relatively isolated high point in the game and it came to mind first. It was Tele-Mea and I remember looking down at my friend Zyphinx and waving, laughing at how awesome it was. A few days later I was on a temp ban but still. Yeah, the point is we like scenery and it's nice to be able to see the world from a different perspective. I really hope we can get off the ground somehow, I hate the idea of being restricted like FFXI makes me feel when I play. I have to walk around this, I have to find the ramp down that, it gets old fast after you've played literally any other MMO.
Something like WoW's flight path? YouTube - WotLK (beta) Cross County Flight (draw distance seem kinda low, but w/e).
Problem with this is that you end up wanting teleport after a while. Flying over a zone is fun once, but after 150 times, it might get old.
Being able to fly at your will mean you will never get annoyed at stupid terrainn. I cant think how many times I had to walk 5 minutes (and more) because there was a 5 inch high step my character couldnt jump pass or whatever.
Well worth temp ban imo! I ended up getting caught trying to mpk gilseller at boroka with bomb clusters, but before that, I explored every map literally. I tried to get on the pirate ship in Norg (didn't work), on the airship dock in Safehold, went on top of the cathedral in Sandoria, light house in gustaberg, deep inside the ocean in buburimu (walking next to fish is awesome), quick jump to purgonis island with camera catching up, inside the crystal above promathia, walked on top of large branches, I zoned inside Ou'Hpat Obelisk...etc It's sad to say, but it was probably the month I enjoyed the most in my 6 years. And as "illegal" as pos.exe was I didn't gain any "unfair" advantage other than pretty pictures.I did the same exact thing, I tried to think of a relatively isolated high point in the game and it came to mind first. Isn't there a "What I want from WoW/etc in FFXIV" thread or something for random thoughts like this?
The ground textures are not all bad, but there are few low quality spots. I think these pictures are partially fabricated anyway.

Since I live 100km away from cologne I took the time to test FFXIV myself and wrote a report about it.
Maybe there is some new information which wasn't covered here.

i'm more interested in the letting the players get to try it out soon. Even if its JP only i'm sure some of it will be leaked to this hemisphere
Dual wielding sounds like it could be fun if it works how I'm thinking. Equip a sword and a staff/club and you're pretty much a RDM. It would allow for many mixed classes like that.
nah i dont think it'll be like that, only Main weapon determine your class, but if possible to dual wield maybe thats because SE sick of everone /NINing their way, now not only ninjas can do it ^.^
