While I could live without the joke characters you inevitably see in a broad creation system (Part of me wishes GMs would police such things along with xvxs3ph1r07hxvx type names), it's nice to not see your clone and perhaps be able to leave an impression on others who do see you more up close. Plus there's always cutscenes you may be a part of.
I agree just like in RL ! we should all look the same! cus most of the time we spend only like 10 minutes every morning looking at ourselves. the rest of the time it does not matter. lol i kid
Seriously though another point of view is that we all would love to be unique, and also giving more depth of creation does also create more of an attachment to your character also.
I love spending time creating a more unique character, that can be recognized and differentiated.
Well I never understood why anyone wanted PVP included in their game experience and I know a lot of ppl hate to craft but I think those things should be in the game. I find it fun to make different looking characters that I can identify with. MMORPG's need to try to cater to a broad audience not just you.
And another POV - literally :D - is that even if we don't look at ourselves that much, others do and we watch other and we would like them to be awe-struck or something like that, no? ;p
Someone asked me to post his review/thoughts of his trial at gamescom. I noticed some of the pictures were shown already but not sure about the review.
Final Fantasy XIV – Impressions of GamesCom
That impression was posted some time before I think, and in English too.

nothing new actually but few interesting points :
i think they are making it easier to help other ppl in their quests unlike 11PSB: The leveling system was described as not being experienced based. Can you explain exactly what kind of system you’re working on, and if it’s been completely defined?
Tanaka: This time it really depends on the Armoury system. It’s going to depend on how much you use your own equipment and weapons. The more you use it, the more the skill will go up of your class, so that’s the way you will get to higher levels for the class – the skills. You’ll also get abilities. It’s not going to be like if you fight more monsters, you’ll get more level ups, like similar to the experience system. Of course, if you fight against monsters, you will get some skill points, but it will help more if you attend to Guildleves. So that will be a more efficient way to hone your skills and ‘level up’ your character.
and
now lets sleep till TGSPSB: Are you still planning a spring 2010 beta?
Tanaka: We can’t really say any certain timing, because the launch is planned to release is 2010. So that means in springtime there will probably be something at that point. We are trying to work as soon as possible, so as soon as preparation is done, there could be something earlier than 2010.
In an interview from onelastcontinue.com, posted in the hardware thread, they mentioned they are trying to make it easier to help each other with guildleves, mainly that you can join someone who is in the middle of a quest already and still participate, rather than having to be there at the beginning/being on the same stage as they are, like XI.
Don't tease me like that, TanakaOriginally Posted by beta question
Armoury system is still a bit confusing.. I hope they address some issues that I find relevant:
- accessibility to switch jobs/classes easy but in doing so, example: say you've progressed gladiator to a high point but never touched mage. You decide to switch to mage to heal yourself, does your HP suddenly drop or what happens?
- mage weapon skill level determine what spells you have? are those considered abilities?
From the way they say, it sounds like your HP doesn't drop when you switch to mage (otherwise what's the point of switching to heal yourself). Also, you can't switch in combat, so for that purpose it doesn't matter.
I'd speculate that perhaps your HP/MP are their own "skills" or whatever that develop independent of "job". That would be weird though, if you were in say Ronfaure, killing rabbits, which you nuke for 10 damage with Stone, but you have 1500 HP.
That's an interesting issue.
This reminds me a lot of Fable released for Xbox (and then PC, not the old pc title).
But what makes the most sense is your character will have a set HP and MP, regardmess of your current weapon equiped, with these values belong to your character. When you switch weapons it just allows a different set of abilities for your disposal.
odds are, your melee jobs will use the mp field for its abilities too. similar to the AP ff (and/or similiar titles) has utilized in the past.
I see what you mean but I forgot to say the part where they said, to paraphrase "yes the characters are buffed for the alpha version". I assume defense was a part of it because they were taking like 1 dmg each time? So.. if you changed classes, how does that factor in as well, along with the HP, MP, etc.
That's what I was assuming as well.
I was trying to explain the Armory system, what we know of it so far anyways, to a friend. And he pointed out something I had not considered, which was "Hey, that sounds just like EVE Online, only you level up the skills yourself rather than some arbitrary timer."
For those unfamiliar, EVE is a space MMO where your character is just a character who flies a ship, and based upon the skills you have, determines what kind of ship you can fly, and what abilities your ship has.
So you can upgrade your character with stronger ships, like a battleship, that can take a lot more punishment. Or you can fly a much faster ship, which has its own purposes. Then depending on what type of ship you are, depends on what weapons you can equip, if you can mine, if you can do all sorts of things. Then, for each "ability", there are different levels of skill in it, that determine how much damage you do, how much you heal for, how much you get from mining, etc.
It's not a bad idea, although the timed aspect sucks, since new players can never really catch up (it takes like 2+ years at the fastest possible pace in the game to get to capital ships; lame.)
If it was similar in FFXIV, only you have control over leveling the skills up, that would make a lot of sense to me.
