No, I think you'll find that I'm using a very generous portion of "if's." I'm neither assuming that there will be more to the system than we've already seen, nor that there won't be. But I'm not going to speculate about things for which there is no evidence.
You don't ask for evidence that something does not exist. Bit of a falsifiability dilemma there. Regardless, from where I sit, you were the one making assumptions. I'm merely evaluating potential scenarios.
But anyway, this conversation has turned far too silly for my tastes.
Let me break this down for you one last time.
I was providing my impression of what we currently know (very little) without any disillusionment that we know everything. You then rebuked my analysis with your own impressions based on speculation.
I'm not going to do this dance with you. You were wrong, but no one really cares. Hell, I don't really even care. I'm just bored. The question is, am I bored enough to keep having this conversation with you? The answer is
With the exception of speculation about a possible contribution from gear (which is actually supported by comments from people who tried the alpha version at Gamescom), my comments were grounded in the fact that we only have one firm fact about job selection. That is that the weapon plays a major role. Beyond that, we know nothing and we should not assume that weapons selection alone will define the character.
Interviews from gamescon nothing new but hey it's in color! From GT:

Gamescom 2009: Producers Hiromichi Tanaka and Sage Sundi Talk Final Fantasy XIV | One Last Continue:
An interview posted over at One Last Continue. All the same stuff but they did have some info about player names, player mounts, and airship battles.
"they are trying to inplement a name/surname system in the game to allow people who may use the same singular identity, such as Sephiroth, to have a dual name in order to keep arguments about identity theft to a minimum."
"One last thing we were able to get out of Tanaka was the possibility of having Airship battles after seeing similar trysts in the CG trailer from E3 this past June. More specific announcements regarding player ‘mounts’ will be coming at a later date."
I really enjoyed both interview videos and it was nice having the translator's voice along with it. The video shots of XI spliced up with XIV was really nice to see with some really lovely shots from XI areas. Was weird seeing the play by play style comparisons of XIV and WOW though, that was some twisted stimulus response therapy right there.
Edit, I was referring to the two FFXIV English voice over interviews videos with Tanaka and Sundi.
Two parts on "Game Mechanics" and "Online Competition," posted on Sept 1 from Gametrailers.com and followed up on Eorzeapedia.

Not sure now if it is the same interviews so I will check out this link too.
I find it ironic that you find it ironic that he finds it ironic.
Not really...just wanted to say that.
The name thing is rather interesting. Would be strange to have to read three names, your name, sub title and linkshell / guild title. Good to find out this early so I can make some decent combination.
Friend just got back from the Gamestop event in Vegas and they say it will be on 360 at launch. Also said it looks amazing
<3
Where you at?
I'm on Carby right now you asshole.
lol
<= Tankaru, someone ganked Maxaru when I migrated.
They said they wanted to put it on 360 as well but M$ was holding back due to live. FFXI had POL to fall back on, now SE has to use Live if they want to throw it onto the xbox 360, so money can indeed talk so who's to say they didn't strike up a deal? Gaming industry isn't static.
Well but was the info confirmed anywhere? I'm not believing in "friend of a friend" etc. only. Some real source please![]()
