Is this thing even available in Europe? The verifiedbyvisa.com leads to a "Visa USA" site... not that I expected much, but it certainly doesn't look good. :/ I don't even know if they're implementing it for non-US accounts, since I can't find a link to the news on the EU POL site... can't even find one on the US site.

If you call SE and your credit card is on an account you can have it removed, even if you can't have the account recalled.. so I don't see stealing accounts as a credit card fraud issue. The most this would do is stop server transfers being billed to the person who had their account stolen, if you need to put your password in whenever you go into billing. If you're attempting to steal a credit card and put it into your FFXI account afterwards, I would assume you have bigger problems than their password.. like the possible jail time and the fact you're stealing over $13 and making liabilities if your account does ever get stolen(especially if that credit card gets cancelled). As it's a new online security feature, I can understand SE wanting to stay with the times and offering it, but making it mandatory is absurd.

Ah I see what you mean. I thought a person could just put a new card on the account and make it theirs, thus the business of online gaming accounts being sold at rmt sites.
My bank required VBV. Went online to pay my electricity and ohshi! this vbv comes up and asks me for password.

Pretty cool security but I think SE should have given more time purely from a customer service nightmare perspective. Surely they realize what their employees will be put through in the next 14 hours or so as people clamor to reset their info. After the maintenance delay it is going to be worse.

I think this might be a counter measure to trial accounts being RMTed.
You get a trial account > You put in a creditcard > You start playing > You take it out?

This way they can track who you are and what not. So you cant keep RMTing trials. Just an idea.

Nice, I'm a little relieved now... Hopefully they do adopt it ASAP

That's funny, since Citibank in the US doesn't have it (the mastercard one anyway) although when I called, the guy I spoke to said his information says they are supposed to be starting it "in July or August", so I guess as long as I don't have a billing issue this week I should be fine? lol

I dunno if it'll affect me since I use debit to pay for the game and not credit, but if this causes me to lose service pending registering my debit/credit cards with a service and then calling the wonderful folks at SE billing/support, I don't know that I'd really be willing to follow through, at this point I don't think it'd be worth the hassle.

    HSBC I'm not sure,

OCBC, DBS, POSB, Citibank, UOB cards currently don't support this new thing.

If it is a visa logo debit card, those can go through VBV also. I posted the VBV link up there but the site itself has a FAQ where you can check your card.

    So yeah

My bank doesn't support verified by Visa at all on my VISA debit cards, and I am not eligible for a VISA credit card (which are verified by VISA) due to how credit is issued in Sweden (need to earn a minimum amount of money per fiscal year to be allowed to get a credit card).

    So I am fucked?

This is going to suck when my card expires and I have to enter the new security code. I have no clue on if its verified by visa.

    citibank have

log into your card and you will see it at the security page on the menu after you log in

citibank have their own activation of VbV and can only be done on their own site, so you dont have to go to that link SE provide

Looks like my Capitalone card failed the check. Chase's is alright though, been on the program for years.

Add: Ah, nevermind. Capitalone supports VBV as well. Just need to go to some very fishy 3rd party site.

It seems that some banks outsourced the verification to other companies. Please be VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY careful not to fall for phishing sites while using the outsourced verification companies. Always check with your bank first. For me, I'll just stick to my Chase.

Add: SecureSuite and Cyota sounds rather phishy. Some quick checks indicate the Israeli company was bought by RSA Security. This is quite silly of some banks to have their card members enter personal info on a 3rd party site...Can't hurt to be too careful.

SE wins the cake (in the face) for forcing users to use this.
The banks that outsourced the verification wins the cake icing with extra cream for not properly consolidating the domain names for verification and having ZERO info on their site on Cyota and SecureSuite.
