My bank doesn't support verified by Visa at all on my VISA debit cards, and I am not eligible for a VISA credit card (which are verified by VISA) due to how credit is issued in Sweden (need to earn a minimum amount of money per fiscal year to be allowed to get a credit card).

So I am fucked?

Not familiar with Swedish credit policy but there are "Secured" Visas that you put money on before you use them. You secure the card by pre-paying but it's kind of like you need a balance. 20 dollars of credit requires 40 dollars and you leave 20 on the card to spend 20. There are many brands but maybe the VBV has a qualified international vendors list on their site.

I contacted EU web chat, i was really wondering if the whole Italy was going to stop play ffxi, since we all use a credit card company called "postepay" and is not on the list. The answer:

Is this thing even available in Europe? The verifiedbyvisa.com leads to a "Visa USA" site... not that I expected much, but it certainly doesn't look good. :/ I don't even know if they're implementing it for non-US accounts, since I can't find a link to the news on the EU POL site... can't even find one on the US site.

Verified Visa is available in Europe (at least I have used it several times in Norway), Eurpean webpage at Verified by Visa

I couldn't find anything on the European POL pages either, so we'll just have to wait and see. I found the remarkably short time between the US announcement and the listed date to be odd to say the least. but ah well.

edit: also, you can get vbv prepaid cards I believe http://www.visaeurope.com/personal/y...epaid/main.jsp it's intended for young people, but I would be surprised if it wasn't available for everyone who wanted.
