    Reasonably priced Aion build help

Hi long time reader don't post much except in crafting section, with upcoming release of Aion think its time to update the desktop and looking for input for building a resonably priced build.

Already have 2 24inch monitors, and 2 640gb sata hd's i can recycle rest would need to be new cause rest of system is like 2 years old.

I tried looking up parts at newegg and too many options to choose from
Any help would be welcome, would like to be able to run Aion on high setting cause some screenshots i've seen look sweet.Possibly dual box in future if possible.

Thank you very much for help

What's your current computer specs, 2 years isn't that old depending and Aion doesn't need a super good computer to run well. If you're going to build a new computer regardless, what's your budget like?

Posting from laptop at work so don't have specs with me, will update when i get to work but looking around 2000 at most, something that will be serve me good for next 2-3 years, with minor updates here and there.

Running on win xp still, thinking of maybe switiching to win7 in future

    Thank you for your help

2000$ is more then you will need for a comp that can run Aion on max settings. I had my computer custom made for me rather recently from <ibuypower.com>. I spend about 3k picking out the spec's and everything for the comp I wanted em to make but, if you want to start from scratch, you can easily price something around or under 2k. Building a computer yourself is obviously the cheapest route, but from what I have heard ibuypower is priced rather well.

Oh yeah, HD's are dirt cheap.. so if that's the only thing you were thinking of keeping, I'd trash those and just get new ones. I mean you can get a really good quality 1TB HD for under/around 100$

Couple things from /g/ to help: one is a fairly recent /g/uide for reasonably priced parts in a mid-range build and the other is an example of such a build (posted on /g/, not my own build) that would likely play any game on max today and a good year or two from now. Remember, these are only suggestions, you should do a little more research either by searching for benchmarks or going with your favorite brands (maybe you care for intel more then amd, your choice). You need to make these decisions.

But to give an opinion, spending so much money on a personal computer is silly. I'd set the max at around $800-$900 but even with $600 you can build a great performer (I was able to anyway, and prices have only fallen in the past couple months since I pieced together one; suffered buyer's rage when prices fell not a week after I bought it all lol). Build for now, not for tomorrow since everything tomorrow will be cheaper and more powerful. Buying a $2000+ machine now when a $500 machine two-three years from now will do the same work is what you might see. I'd only see the bigger purchases as necessary if you need a powerhouse workstation, as in doing actual work and not just as a plaything, but your cash; your toys heh.

I'd save the hdds and whatever else you think you can pull. Use them for additional storage or to save on a part purchase (though I like starting with a new hdd with a new build, so it's just storage for me). Maybe leave one in your old pc and reformat it to be a backup or loaner to friends. It's what I did with my older ones; sit silently on standby with everything ready for typical use. May wind up giving it away or selling it really cheap since it does all typical stuff quite snappy still.

3k should have gave you the best pc at the moment for home use. You can make a real nice one for under 1k.

I made a £900 build here a few days ago http://www.bluegartr.com/forum/78987...ideas-plz.html you can pull the parts and match them on newegg. If you want the PC to last a few years, I'd go with this i7 build. If you're ok with going above average, spending more to get more, I suggest upgrading the motherboard I listed to the evga classified x58, it's probably one of the best i7 boards. And then choose your pick of video cards. The gtx260 is a standard these days, it'll play Aion at max settings/max resolution. For nvidia, it scales in price/performance, gtx275, 285, 295 and then there's nvidia with their 4850, 4870, 4870 x2, 4890.

The other build I made will probably go for $1200-1500. To make a $3k build, get the i7 975 extreme and SLI 2 gtx295s lol
