The Luck of the Fryish is even better imo. And to say it like its an 'either/or' situation doesn't do justice to them... both of those eps (and most of the other dramatic episodes) are actually full of some great lines. People just forget them because by the end of the show the drama element of the story has taken a front seat. You really got to watch some of the drama episodes a couple times to get the most out of them (this is true for most episodes actually considering the writer's tendency to have plenty of hidden/deeper meaning jokes scattered about, but that's besides the point).
On the topic of family guy... like many others I've only seen a couple of the episodes after it was brought back. I don't necessarily hate all of the new episodes, they have their moments, but I feel they've let their characters motivations stray too far from what made them great to start (best example: compare Stewie in the early episodes to the later ones, lol). They are basically different characters now, which makes it a different show as far as I'm concerned.
