Getting DCed from FFXI extremely frequently

Some days I will DC every 30 minutes or so. I'm notorious in my LS for my shit connection, which, for the record, peaks at 400 kb/s (50kB/s). Anyway, I've usually been able to play in spite of it, but today I FUCKING DCED WHILE FIGHTING EASTERN SHADOW AND LOST THE CLAIM AND THE SPAWN WINDOW OPENS AT 7AM so I really wanna figure out what the hell is wrong.

I'm running Vista Premium 32-bit and using a Belking F5D7230-4 router if that helps, that's about all the information I can think of to post that may be relevant.

Is there a fire wall in the router? I remember when I first got mine, I had to disable it or I would lose connection to everything every 20 minutes.

I had the same problem until I disabled the firewall on my Linksys router. Sometimes if my dad is downloading torrents my connection gets crappy, but not near as bad with the firewall.

I've had both my router firewall and Windows Firewall off for some time now

if your over 5km from the DSL server then your signal will sometimes missfire, lowering my internet connection speed helped me. And FFXI will DC'STFU your client even if you sneeze on your connection.

big shot in the dark, but have you user access control turned off?

i remember that being a problem when it first came out, not sure if thats still the case though.

other than that maybe install wireshark or something, and see what happens the connection when it goes?

I typically dont have issues with my connection, but for some reason the last few days I've also been DCing.

UAC is off, I tried port forwarding, and nothing's changed :<

Honestly it just sounds like you have an ass-quality connection from your ISP to your house. I've gone through a few similar situations, mainly being that the connection is fine from the ISP to the outside-box, but from the box to the house is where degradation was found and this is sometimes a bitch to get the ISP to act on. I think it took about 3 visits before I was able to get a technician inside the house and re-routing the DSL box directly to a single telephone jack. As long as they understand what it is that's happening, I think you'll get somewhere hopefully.

Another instance was caused by the power company because our oven and modem died simultaneously on Thanksgiving Day lol
