I'm not posting this to stir up shit. But I kind of would like a response to this if possible, from a mod. Spam gets all kinds of bullshit dumped in it, it's common knowledge. The second a spam poster makes an even remotely off comment it seems like they are getting smacked down. But threads like this are allowed to continue on.

No offense to Norelco(sorry you were my example dood) but this thread is crap. That is a prime spam piece as far as I'm concerned. If a regular spam poster(Howard, Charismatic, Miz) would have made that thread it would have been moved promptly into spam. Why the double standards? Again I want to stress that I'm not doing this to be a dick or to cause issues. I seriously want to know how you make your decisions as to whether or not something gets moved to spam.

I see both sides of the fence here. I contribute regularly to both forums. But I definitely see a clear case of bias in regards to General. There's also a large disparity between the treatment of spam posters and general posters by mods as a whole. The leash seems to be much tighter on spam regulars by comparison.

First, I don't think anything should be moved to spam if it's made in general discussion. The exception being this thread for the obvious reasons (I handed out no infractions even though I think Howard was intentionally being a douche about it with bumping the wopa threads). I'm fairly certain they want the mod vs spam stuff to stay out of the general public areas. Especially when a lot of the genreal posters have no idea what's going on when they read a thread like this.

There's too much modding, and I think most of the people of spam would agree with that.

To answer your question, modding is subjective and subject to bias and stigmas. As someone said (maybe you), people will take into account who is posting a thread when they figure out what to do with it. For instance, if Kirschy made a stupid AV thread in advanced, I doubt it would get modded. If someone with 2 posts made the same thread, it would probably get laughed at or modded.

Is it really an across the board mod issue with being tighter with spam posters? I don't think I've ever infracted a "spam regular". Then again, I've handed out like 2 or 3 infractions ever, and they were in sports threads. I'm not going to be any tougher on spam posters who contribute to sports threads simply because they are "spam posters".

I try my best to be middle of the road. Sometimes it doesn't work so hot, but usually I'm able to toe the line. I try to look at both sides so when I do attempt to ask a question it's usually a very relevant one that most people are thinking but don't ask. Or if they do ask, they do it like assholes and then wonder why they get an assholish response.

Well in response Tyche, I'm not pointing at you at all when it comes to handing out infractions. I've said before you're usually one of the level headed ones. But there is a noticeable tension when you have spam poster interacting in a thread with someone like Aurik or Tonko(no offense to either of you as I have no issues with you guys.) I'm sure Sonomaa doesn't really pay much mind to the current and seemingly, ongoing conflict between spam and mods. Because let's face it, it really doesn't affect much until it bleeds over into general. It just seems like some mods are waiting to hit the big red button whenever a spam poster disagrees or argues with them outside of spam.

I can understand moving mod bitching threads out of General as a good portion of people have no clue what is going on. Shit half the time I'm not even sure what happened to set poster X off on mod Y. But here's my concern when it comes to that, take it for what you will.

Moderators are the main authority figures here. They enforce and monitor as well as contribute. It's not possible for people to be completely unbiased in their dealings with others. It's just not going to happen. Some mods(more than others) let that bias run completely unchecked. They don't tolerate poster X and make no effort to hide it or give them the benefit of the doubt. As a result they are pretty much subjected to much more intense scrutiny.

Now we take these threads and move them back into spam. Most mods that are posted about in a negative light aren't going to even bother reading these threads. Even though the majority of these threads are nothing more than bitchfests, every now and then there is pertinent information. Whether it be advice or constructive criticism that isn't OMG Tonko is a fag! Odds are those mods will never see it. I don't know if it's a feeling that some of you are beyond reproach or if it's just a superiority issue or an I AM THE LAW deal in those cases.

It won't happen because I don't think it's such a massive problem at this point. But it would be nice if there were a moderator feedback subforum. Nothing over the top, just a place for a poster to voice his or her concerns. Lock the threads immediately after the first post to keep other posters from going in and turning it into a derail about Aurik giving someone an infraction four years ago. Respond to the posters via PM should it warrant it, something like that. Is something like that even feasible? Or would it be something that would be met with resistance in your opinion(ie by mods, not Sonomaa?)

Honestly, I don't think mod vendetta's should be aired in public. If you want a mod to read your opinion, PM a mod that isn't the one you're having a problem with, and ask them to express the concerns in the mod forums. You'll have other mods read it, administrators read it, the forum host will likely read it. It'll get much more play by people that matter than sticking it in general and hoping for the best (or worst depending on how you see it). Maybe it's been tried before, I don't know. Noone's ever asked me to post something in the mod forums for review regarding problems with another mod. I'd have no problem doing it. I agree that if you feel a mod is "out to get you", someone probably needs to know. I just don't think having it where everyone can read it will do any good.

Also, I assure you that sonomaa knows exactly what's going on. Stuff like this does show up in the mod forums. It can be hotly debated there as well.

I agree that there are plenty of shit threads in General(like the Kitten health thread). But there are also shit threads in Spam. That is just my opinion though.
The thing is, some people dont actually think the thread is crap, and they are having an open discussion, and having fun in the thread.
Who cares what your opinion is of certain threads anyways? You think something is shit? Then dont read it or even post in it. That is what I do, and I do it in Spam as well. You wont catch me posting in any Brawl threads ever. I could pop in there, say this is a shit thread, brawl sucks, and you are all fags, but I dont even want to waste my time. I could, because its in Spam.
Does Spam really want to go by the same rules General goes by? I dont want it to, its one of the reasons I like visiting the Spam forums.

I honestly believe that the reason for alot of the stigma towards spam posters and such come from times when we actually did cross the line. Cue in Spam hijacking the SE Response thread that cause Advanced rules to be changed and the ever so lovely new "moderators can ban" rule.

So Spam has crossed the line sometimes, I'll give them that. However, were pretty angelic when it comes to other shit forums. (Ohai old Advanced / General.)

I do agree with the way that Tyche has said to take action against this if you really want to bring it up and get dealt with but the one thing that I do like about it being posted in a public area is that instead of saying its one person's opinion, you can find out that there are several people who feel the same way about this subject. It is sad though, that because this is spam, we are looked down upon by most of the staff to the point they believe anyone that posts here regularly do not have say in any forum matters.

I don't have a problem with Aurik outside of the forums..actually I think hes a really cool guy when I chat with him on IRC. But I definitely do see the discrimination against certain people when they post in general. Even that forum stats thread seemed like a normal forum conversation but people flipped out that spam was ruining it and it got locked. I'm sure if I looked through general, I would see a ton of posts that a spam poster would get infractioned for but they haven't because they aren't a spam regular.

I think its sad that people in General can't have a little fun with posting on forums, and that every post needs to be 100% srz biznes or else its spam.
