Absolutely fantastic movie. Christopher and his son were the only likable characters in the movie I felt though. Wikes was a complete asshat the whole time until near the end I guess. Nonetheless, amazing movie, want a sequel, etc

Wife and I went and saw it at the drive in, so was nice to be loud and no one care. Some funny spots here and there. I enjoyed the documentary style to it. All i have to say is: 3 FUCKING YEARS?!

    best be a sequel...

Probably the point. I wanted to reach out and slap him a few times, but yeah, character progression.

I personally think this movie was pretty overrated. Not to point to say it's not a good/enjoyable movie. One of my personal quirks was the awful acting done by the lead. (I'm not sure if anyone else started laughing when the protagonist started crying and babbling like an idiot, but to me personally I think that means he isn't doing a very good job : P)

    Spoiler: show

I might have missed it but I'm almost 100% positive they didn't explain why the hell the aliens just landed and how they couldn't get the mothership working and then magically 20 years later someone finds out how to operate it. (Was he missing fuel or a computer to operate it? To be honest I couldn't figure out what was the problem 20 years ago.)

It is definitely a possible candidate for the top movie of the year though. Story was fresh/original and I loved how the Prawns acted more "human-like" (being tricked and feeling emotions, etc) rather than just insanely powerful monsters. If you can get past the really awful acting done by the lead role and lack of certain story elements it's still a great movie.

IMDB gave it a 9.0 but I'd probably lean more towards a 8.0 in my opinion. Which is still pretty damn high to begin with.

I put spoiler tags just in case anyone who hasn't seen the movie is reading this thread for reviews.

They sort of explained/hinted at it.
    Spoiler: show
There was no explaination of why they came, but why they couldnt leave was because of that piece/ship falling out from the main ship, lack of fuel, and all of the prawns were worker prawns, so none of them knew how to operate it except for a couple.

    or something

I read somewhere too that the reason that they couldn't leave was because they ran out of fuel, and had to make an emergency landing on earth. Maybe it was just some random guy typing shit, I don't really remember.

Why Christopher could just fly off with it I don't know, though. Maybe if the sludge was enough to power the mothership too... ?

I figured that Christopher was just one of the ship's pilots or engineers so he knew how to operate it, but wasn't a leader of any sort. They landed and they lost the part, which is why they couldn't leave. Why? Dunno.

According to Sony's synopsis of the movie, the aliens are refugees and the last of their species, which makes Christopher's actions at the end kind of suspicious

Does Sony even know the movie they sponsored? He says I'm leaving to go get help from out home planet. Meaning there are more prawns out there. GG. Also they probably stopped on Earth because the leader died and the workers didn't know what the fuck to do. Which is why when humans got into the ship they were malnourished etc.

Copley was spot on. If you're asking yourself why they landed or couldn't get the ship working, then you missed the entire point. I absolutely hate when everything is spelled out and dumbed down for the masses. Glad it didn't go in that direction. Oh, and no sequel please.

I liked it, but I guess I read too much hype that it didn't seem to live up to. I was expecting more ID4 epicness, but it was still good. I think I should've gone see 500 days of summer instead.

I agree that it gets boring when everything has to be dumbed down/explained (Numb3rs).

Went with 3 other guys and we were thoroughly entertained by the movie. Started out kinda weird wasn't expecting the movie I got, but the way that people died was just hysterical, we laughed every fucking time.

I wouldn't mind at least a little more I suppose, and there was a scene in the trailer I didn't notice in the movie. I hate previews/trailers nowadays cause throughout the movie I just sit there and go, ok where is that scene I saw on tv/bg/youtube.

idk if I'd want a sequel, obviously if the movie does well enough they'll put one out even if it is terrible. And the movie is doing pretty well, so we can probably expect it. It's pretty obvious what it will be about in general, but there are a few directions they could go with it.

Now that I think about it, was the scene where the humans were interrogating the prawn, and he said "We just want to go home..." even in the movie?

I don't understand how people could miss the explanation of the ship. If you didn't understand why the ship didn't work, why did you think they were raiding MNU? Did you think they were just mad and felt like blowing stuff up?

I think people are just irked with the potential plot hole of "If Christopher had the ability to fly the ship at the end, why couldn't he have done that before it came to Earth in the first place, before the control pod broke off?"

I just assumed that the 'fuel making' process took 20 years (they never really explain if it actually took him 20 years to collect it all, or if part of that 20 years was developing a process to make it), and went on enjoying the film.
