I'm going to remain hopeful. I always do ND/USC week, and inevitably end up crushed, but I'm just not wired any other way.

One thing is for sure though, this game is going to be overhyped by anyone and everyone. I even said once I saw the rankings that we ended up 25 just so the media could toss in the whole two ranked teams angle.

I agree. NBC already sucked it's cock during the golf this weekend (was watching while the Raiders/Giants game was on) and advertised it as one of the greatest rivalries. Last i checked, both teams have to be competitive to make it a rivalry, and sure, we had 'the push', but outside of that.. bloooow outs. D:

Despite the hype, I think the USC - Notre Dame game is going to be very interesting. Both teams have something to prove coming into this, although you have to give the advantage to USC given that they're now starting to open up the offensive playbook and the fact that they always show up for big games.

And there is that whole they've handed us our asses (save for 2005) several years in a row.

I don't think this one will be a blowout for once though. Despite how poorly we've been playing, there is one thing that has been standing out to me this season and that is the fire we've been playing with when our backs are against the wall. It's been a looooong time since I've seen a ND team refuse to give up in a game like they have.

While I do think Clausen is getting overhyped nationally, it is still hard to look past the fact he leads the entire nation in passing efficiency. He has been scary accurate this season and looks like a completely different QB than he did the last two years. For the Irish to have any chance against USC, that is going to have to continue. We can't afford turnovers against a defense like the Trojans as they aren't going to give you many chances to make up for your mistakes.

My biggest worry is Floyd being out. Tate had a mammoth game for sure last week, but again, much better defense this time around. Kyle Rudolph is coming into his own, but after that, your passing options are limited to Robby Paris and true freshman Shaq Evans (of course we still have the 1000 screen plays we love to run to our RB too).

I'm still not sure what to think of USC's offense as it has been all over the map IMO this season. Arnwulf is right though, it has looked a lot better since the Washington upset. One thing I can say is our defense isn't so hot right now. We still aren't getting to the QB nearly enough in our blitz happy system and USC will burn us on that early and often if we don't hit home. Of course, based on last week, we just need to allow USC get to the 5 and we can hold to a FG lol.

Should be a good one, can't wait to be out there for it. My Friday flight can't get here fast enough.
