Yeah I know PSU's schedule is wedding cake, but the BCS almost promotes it. Beating terrible teams into oblivion seems better than having a stronger SoS when tallying up the scores. On top of that, I've seen so many people mention how many starters ND is returning like it makes any difference. Returning 18 shitty people is not better than returning 6 good people and a bunch of rookies. How many players did the Raiders return last year?
You realize that ND's schedule is even weaker right? I hope you believe Penn State can win 10 games this season, because that is more or less what it'll take to top ND this season. Beyond USC, the only other games that might even be issues are Michigan State and Michigan if they rebound big this season.

The big deal about the returning starters is two fold: first you have the combo of Clausen/Floyd/Tate returning once again, and that has been the major offensive punch for the Irish (Floyd recent since he is only a sophomore, Clausen/Tate now in year three) and second, you have the most experienced O-Line in the nation in terms of games started -- something ND has been struggling with ever since 2006.

Show me a football team that will have success with an O-Line comprised of mainly Freshmen and Sophomores or even with a group of guys that have never played together. It just doesn't happen in the college game. You gotta get bigger, stronger, and gel together as a line.

    Sacks allowed in 2007: 58
    Sacks allowed in 2008: 22

Just a slight improvement there (not great though by any means).

Keep in mind too, Clausen has still been adjusting to the game. It took Brady until his junior year to put things together and Clausen actually has better numbers than Quinn did his first two years. And after two years of developing chemistry with Stoval, that became a deadly combination as did getting in sync with Samarjiza.

Returning starters will matter this season...and against this crappy schedule, if they can't light up the opposition, they never will.

    Bravo kid. Bravo.
Eulls is rated the No. 19 defensive end in the nation and the No. 8 overall prospect in Mississippi by Rivals.com. He holds scholarship offers from the likes of Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Ole Miss, Southern Miss and Tennessee but has been committed to the Bulldogs since early July.
It's funny you post this now, because local stations here in Athens have it all over the morning news now with the team leaving for Stillwater tomorrow. Outside of his obvious talent, Richt has a nose for standup people like this. Whether he stays at UGA or decides elsewhere, I hope he stays with us. Someone like that on defense with obvious leadership ability can anchor a team for a great many years.

Edit: No wonder Gundy might have wanted to keep this under wraps until gameday. Orie Lemon, senior linebacker for the Cowboys, has a torn ACL and could be out for the year. Started all 13 games for Ok State last year with 90 tackles.

Edit: Also seems the starting TE for Ok State Jamal Mosely has left the team for personal reasons. Vegas has removed the game from their lines as of yesterday afternoon. The hell is going on in Stillwater?

Usually I'd comment on how dumb people are these days trying to "stand up" to a gun, but doing it for a busload of kids' sake? Fuck yeah. I'll cheer for Miss St. for a while!

    I just caught that, lol.

Clearly, Notre Dame having an easy schedule means they'll do great.

Like last year, when they played 2 ranked teams, one of whom ended up 8-5 and unranked...

And won an amazing 7 games.

He is going to MSU bulldogs. Not UGA.
Eulls, who is a four-star defensive end that is verbally committed to play football at Mississippi State next year

It's the combination of having an easy schedule and having players progress.

Seriously, look at our schedule and point out the games that should give us trouble. 10 wins (and getting spanked in a bowl game most likely after) is really not out of the question at all.

There is a reason why ND fans have been saying Weis needs to win 10 games or he is gone and even why some folks have been crazy enough to say ND has a chance to be in the BCS title game.

Despite last season's disappointments, the team did get better. Yeah, yeah how could they get worse, I know, but there was still a progression from one year to the next. There is no reason to no expect the progression to continue and have them be better this season as well.

I'm not predicting greatness on the level of a title or even a BCS win, but I really don't think I'm out of line at all seeing 10 wins as a very likely result for ND this season.

I just realized, we get to hear 2 of the most annoying homers in the world talk shit after week 1. Kirin or Plow...who's it gonna be. I think Plow probably has the upper hand in this one.

I heard Navy's gonna be pretty good this year. They were pretty tough last year.

Honestly I really just hope Miami wins. I don't think OkSU is really as big of a game, not too worried about it anyway. And it would, of course, be nice to see OU just absolutely smash BYU.

I can't wait for Plow to start verbally blowing the Big 12 and then swallowing their collective load again. It's one of the things I've looked forward to since last year.

Seriously, the top 25 teams in the nations should contain no less than 12 teams from the Big 12. And all 12 somehow ranked in the top 10 through ties.

Actually laughed out loud at this. My dad is a former Middie actually follows Navy football, and even he doesn't hold out much hope. They had their moment two years ago.

In more important news, tomorrow morning I will be flying to Atlanta for the VT/Bama game. This will be the first time seeing the Tide live, and my first time in the Georgia Dome. I couldn't be more excited especially since Julio and Ingram will definitely be playing. Enjoy, bitches.

It is pretty great, but rivalry games like UT , LSU, and AU are experiences to behold.

Oh come on, I'm really not as bad as Plow. I know the SEC is superior. He thinks the Big XII is. Big difference. Pun intended.

You'll be surprised. Last year I had to support my dawgs being ranked #1, and then watch them fold. This year, I get to berate Florida for it. Those are two vastly different things.

Guess it was just a misread about the defensive guy. But its still no surprise Right was after him.

Anyone else think this Bama/VT game is getting overhyped? Wasnt Clemson thought of the same way last year...and look how that turned out. I'm calling the game is boring by halftime with Bama up by 10.

Yep. It's getting too much pub just because it's #5 Vs #7. If it were in the middle of the year with those ranks, it'd be one thing, but no one gives a flying fuck about preseason rankings. I personally don't like Alabama this year. I thnk LSU could win the West because Bama had to retool their entire O-line and work in a new QB. Either way, I don't really care. D: I hope it'll be a good game, but I like Virginia Tech.
